Decluttering is great, nothing wrong with that. Makes sense: here's a sensible article on it. How to... declutter your home | Mail Online

What I find alarming is the quest to be a perfect 50's housewife while also being a working mother, while one's husband sits in his armchair doing nowt ( MiL and FiL are a 50s couple, and they expect me and Mr TS to be the same: we both work, but only I am expected to cook and clean)

A clean sink is a good thing. Trouble is, OH keeps filling it up with dirty things

      Hi TwoSheds,
thankfully said site nowhere states that you have to be a perfect housewife, while working full-time and nobody helping you.

Anyway, I am sorry for raising a topic, that is obviously so emotionally laden. It's usually religion that I avoid talking about for exactly that reason.

Feel free to close or delete the thread.

        I don't think anyone's being emotional. It's simply a discussion.

I didn't know what the site says, because my PC won't let me open it.

As I said, nothing wrong with decluttering. I do it constantly.

          Weekly Flylady Thread 18th January 2010 - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

There's a flylady thread on here; which is the one I printed out......it is about bringing 'keeping house' into your daily routine and making it easy - rather than preaching [which is what the original flylady website sometimes does]. Ie - tackle a little every day and it all adds up

I would have posted the link yesterday - but we were cleaning! And then I had a load of muck to move at the lottie....little and often as they say....back there again today.

Zaz, I LIKE that link: I'll print it off for Mr TS pronto.

I try to keep on top of the dirt daily, and I ruthlessly give broken/unused/forgotten items to charity, but I only really 'do' each room once a month: each Monday I'll put on some loud music and blitz one room.

My entire being just resists domestic drudgery (however I do enjoy emptying and sorting drawers)

Maybe we should make this thread the 'inspire each other to sort our homes' thread.
I did almost start one a couple of weeks ago when the "Let's lose some weight" thread started.

I write myself incredibly patronising lists sometimes....probably by the time I've written them I could have cleaned the kitchen....it's good for me to be able to put a huge tick through things as I've done them.
My biggest problem is the amount of clutter we have...I actually love cleaning(),it's the tidying up before I can clean that I struggle with.

As I should be blitzing the kitchen right now,I'll wait and look at the Flylady sites in a bit.

I'm fine at cleaning other people's houses - it's just my own that defeats me!

That's why we got a dishwasher! Only trouble is actually getting people to open the said item and put their plates in it instead of leaving them on the worktop above.

Sorry if I upset you, have no problem with the idea and the little and often approach is a good one it was the type of language used which I didn't like and the fact I felt it was very American so I genuinely didn't understand sections of it. (I have never heard the expressions fly lady in the past so it doesn't really relate to me). As I said previously, if it works for you then great, it doesn't for me but it would be boring if we were all the same.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

My Mum , bless her, used to be regimental with her housework right down to what day she cleaned the drains.( I think I've rebelled against that somewhat.) and now my Dad seems to be carrying on the routine. But I'd rather him do that than give up so I think it's sort of helping him cope.
