Because of a very long-term relationship that I haven't held my life up for, but is still ongoing "I'll Walk Alone".

It comes from a wartime musical called "With a Song in My Heart". It was written for a woman but as the only female versions with all the words have a lot of 40's woowooing in the background I prefer the Ricky Nelson version.

YouTube - Ricky Nelson - I'll Walk Alone
"I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)
"It is neccessary to have wished for death in order to know how good it is to live" (also Alexandre Dumas)

I like 'So long Frank Lloyd Wright' Simon and Garfunkel
Architects may come and architects may go
And never change your point of view
      When I run dry
I stop a while and think of you.'
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

          It's a mistery to me
          we have a greed
          with which we have agreed

You think you have to want
          more than you need
until you have it all you won't be free

          society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me

When you want more than you have
          you think you need
and when you think more than you want
          your thoughts begin to bleed

I think I need to find a bigger place
'cos when you have more than you think
          you need more space

          society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
          society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

there's those thinking more or less less is more
but if less is more how you're keeping score?
Means for every point you make
          your level drops
kinda like its starting from the top
          you can't do that...

          society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
          society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

          society, have mercy on me
I hope you're not angry if I disagree
          society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

"Society" by the ledge Eddie Vedder.

I hate it when a guy

Or, another classic Avril line (from 'I don't have to Try'):

I'm the one who tells you what to do
You're the one, you're the one if I let you
I'm the one, I'm the one who wears the pants
              I WEAR THE PANTS!!

                  Life carries on
                  In the people i meet
In everyone that's out on the street
In all the dogs and cats
                  In the flies and rats
In the rot and the rust
In the ashes and the dust

Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see 'em bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

                    The colors of the rainbow
Are so pretty in the sky
                    It's also on the faces
                    Of people goin' by
                    I see friends shakin' hands
                    Sayin', "How do you do?"
They're really sayin', "I love you."
I hear babies cry, and I watch 'em grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know

And my absolute favourite (made me shiver and put tears in my eyes)

                      There's no time for us
                      There's no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away
                      from us

                      Who wants to live forever
                      Who wants to live forever....?

                      There's no chance for us
                      It's all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

                      Who wants to live forever
                      Who wants to live forever?

                      Who dares to love forever?
                      When love must die

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
                      And we can have forever
                      And we can love forever
                      Forever is our today
                      Who wants to live forever
                      Who wants to live forever?
                      Forever is our today

                      Who waits forever anyway?

                      Queen.

This line made me chuckle, the rest had me in tears by the end of the song!

I’d rather break bread with Dawkins than Desmond Tutu
                          To be honest
Tim Minchin, White Wine in the Sun
YouTube - Tim Minchin - White Wine In The Sun (Christmas Song)

                          I'm looking forward to Christmas
It's sentimental, I know, but I just really like it
                          I am hardly religious
I'd rather break bread with Dawkins than Desmond Tutu, to be honest

And yes, I have all of the usual objections to consumerism
The commercialisation of an ancient religion
And the westernisation of a dead Palestinian
Press-ganged into selling Playstations and beer
But I still really like it

                          I, I really like Christmas
Though I'm not expecting a visit from Jesus

                          I'll be seeing my dad
My brother and sisters, my gran and my mum
They'll be drinking white wine in the sun
                          I'll be seeing my dad
My sisters and brother, my gran and my mum
They'll be drinking white wine in the sun

I don't go for ancient wisdom
I don't believe just 'cos ideas are tenacious it means they are worthy
I get freaked out by churches
Some of the hymns that they sing have nice chords but the lyrics are dodgy

And yes I have all of the usual objections to the miseducation
Of children forced into a cult institution and taught to externalise blame
And to feel ashamed and to judge things as plain right and wrong
But I quite like the songs

                          I'm not expecting great presents
The old combination of socks, jocks and chocolate is just fine by me

Cos I'll be seeing my dad
My brother and sisters, my gran and my mum
They'll be drinking white wine in the sun
                          I'll be seeing my dad
My sisters and brother, my gran and my mum
They'll be drinking white wine in the sun

                          And you, my baby girl
                          My jetlagged infant daughter
You'll be handed round the room
Like a puppy at a primary school
And you're too young to know
But you will learn yourself one day
That wherever you are and whatever you face
These are the people who'll make you feel safe in this world
                          My sweet blue-eyed girl

                          And if, my baby girl
                          When you're twenty-one or thirty-one
                          And Christmas comes around
And you find yourself nine thousand miles from home
                          You'll know what ever comes
Your brother and sister and me and your
Will be waiting for you in the sun
                          Girl, when Christmas comes
Your brothers and sisters, your aunts and your uncles
Your grandparents, cousins and me and your mum
Will be drinking white wine in the sun
We'll be waiting for you in the sun
                          Baby whenever you come
We'll be waiting for you in the sun
                          Waiting...

                          I, I really like Christmas
                          It's sentimental, I know

Too many favourites to list, but among them
"Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns and calls me on and on Across the Universe"
                            Across the Universe, Beatles.

I don't really go for the 'downbeat'. There is too much of that in life without celebrating it in song.
Not that I mind sad ones, that is another matter....
Thinking, maybe start a thread on sad songs/lyrics that make you giggle inappropriately.....(or anything else that has the same effect)
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

OH YES. Mind you, my favourite song depends on what mood I am in. I also like Tina Turner "You're simply the best", Simon & Garfunkle "Bridge over Troubled Water", "The first time ever I saw your face" - can't remember the singer. and on and on and on.

                                Yellow tigers,
                                Crouched in jungles,
                                In your dark eyes.
