I dug up all my carrots and a few parsnips and froze them a couple of weeks back. How smug? And we aren't even having a roast on Christmas day

Frozen carrots or parsnips don't count as fresh veg for crimbo (They're cack anyway!).............unless they are frozen in the ground that is!

Pile straw, covered with fleece on the ones you want to dig up and they should be o.k. for Christmas day.

I'd do the hot water, and then straw/fleece/cloche. If you cover them before they're slightly defrosted, you're likely to just keep the cold in...

Fortunately, I have a stove in the shed, so heating water is no problem Unfortunately, I have no carrots or parsnips left Do have leeks, swede and cabbage though

What about a teensy bonfire on or nearby the veg, heat up the spade or fork in the fire and slide chosen tool effortlessly through the frozen ground to free the trapped carrots and parsnips.

Just when I thought the frost was bad enough they are now covered in three inches of snow.

lol we have 6-7 inches now, tis still coming down, guess i'll be going to asda for veg not enough stuff to burn to get through that lot .... and actually i don't care it looks beautiful

I was just going to ask if mine would be okay left out til Christmas in this weather. I guess the answers yes but getting them in might be fun. Mine are in a big tub though so worst case I can tip it up and chisel them out. I just hope there is something under there, first ever parsnips!
