  • Plough Monday

Today ( the first Monday following Epiphany ) is traditionally called Plough Monday.
Bet a lot of you didn't know that??
Apparently Christmas celebrations used to continue into February in Medieval times and the festive season was shortened so that the peasants could return to the fields by today.
So if any of you spot a peasant not busy ploughing the fields today.......

Useful bit of history, but I wouldn't fancy starting to plough in January weather even in medieval times - wasn't the weather colder then?

BTW - It's not the same as 'moo-cow' Monday is it?
Used to be common in Loughborough when they had the cattle market in town and the pubs stayed open all day, workers took a sickie
