What do the scool say....they may not take her back.

I would keep her off a bit to let it start setting. With a cast on and 4 # if she fell on it she could be in all sorts of problems.

This close to the end of term & the fact she's only five,I'd let her choose...but bear in mind they often have fun stuff going on in the last week!
That said,Daisy broke her arm earlier this year...she did it the Wednesday evening, went to A&E straight away, but had to go back Thursday morning to have the proper cast put on...under her wishes, she was back in school on the Thursday arvo!!!(she loves school!)
When she broke her wrist the year before, she went to school on the Monday, having "sprained" her wrist on the Saturday!I did manage to persuade her to take the full day off that time, but the following day she was sooo desperate to show off her purple cast I gave in & let her go.
The school were brilliant, she wasn't allowed to join in with outdoor play(which p'd her off a bit,but helped put my mind at ease!)& the whole class had a little chat from the teacher that they needed to be careful not to knock it...partly for her safety, partly for theirs...bloody hurts getting wacked with a plastered arm!
So basically...go with what she wants...it's gonna hurt at home,it's gonna hurt at school, but at least there'll be more stuff to take her mind off it in school.
Oh,also,I was allowed to leave some sachets of Calpol & Ibruprofen in the office for her to self medicate.Just had to sign a form.

Well Veggielover, she's your daughter and it's up to you to decide when she can go back to school - and it's not tomorrow

If she was my daughter she would be going back after the summer holiday with escorted visits to any special events before then.
She doesn't just have her arm broken in 4 places (just ) She will be quite shocked as well - from the fractures, the pain, the hospital admission, the surgery, the separation from parents and home. She neesd lots of reassurrance and TLC, not a quick return to school - she'll miss nothing there.

Alice, i could'nt agree with you more.
5 year olds are little more than babies.
Plenty of reassurance and T.L.C. (cures everything)

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

This is one of those 'yes... and no...' situations. Small children are actually much more resilient than adults tend to believe. Yes, she needs loads of reassurance, as long as it doesn't drift into reminding her how bad things are. I wouldn't be in any hurry for a return to school, but the message should be that all is going to be well soon, rather than that this is a nasty situation!

I have kept her at home today as she had another bad night, but she is not happy about it and is insisting she goes back tomorrow ( even if its just till lunchtime ), so will take her tomorrow for the morning at least depending on the amount of sleep she has tonight........
