is anyone else 'funny???'

I'm known as "Goodlife" up our street.

Beginning of this week a neighbour asked me if I was "doing the Goodlife thing". My reply was uncharacteristically restrained But I'm the one with red squirrel, sparrow hawks, toads, zillions of song birds and next year - loads of veggies!

I am more than happy for the neighbours to think I am quite strange, in fact, I may even have been guilty of encouraging such opinions on occasions - it's much easier that way, you can subsequently get away with pretty much anything in the garden and they just nod their heads sympathetically! (well, I reckon that is what used to happen at our last house )

i found myself at the bus stop yesterday morning giving advice about tomato plants. no matter who i speak to they all say they have not got green fingers, but they are all having a go at growing tomatoes or strawberries

Yep, definitely 'funny' over here, and very much proud of it! Some of the other plotholders on our site are always saying that Lee and I arent allotmenteers, we're farmers! Lol!

In fact, those folks that we get talking to that become patronising or dismissive of what we grow soon change their minds when they find out how tasty the food we grow is and definitely change thier opinions when they realise just how much it is possible to grow, when you tell folks you get �2000 of organic fresh fruit and veg they soon change their tune!

Oh yes.... we get the 'goodlife' comments a lot, especially since we've got hens and ducks, and people think they're really original when they say it

I've had people coming up to me at work and asking questions about growing veg, but being all secretive about it, as if it's something odd or illegal etc...

My sons and hubby were fairly dismissive when I started growing Veg, they have changed their tune now they have tasted it Eldest refuses to eat "that muck form the supermarket" (salad) and tells his mates how great the leeks taste.

Next door keeps calling me Charlie though, I think its the boobs!

Over here I'm considered an amusing English towny with strange GYO techniques!!!! ( but willing to learn the 'proper' way!!!)

You should have seen the confusion on peeps faces when I was asking about elderflower cordial!!!!! ( bit like when I said we grow parsnips and kale...it's cattle fodder here!!!)

I'm definately seen as a bit odd or strange at work. Living in a field quite happily with partner, dogs and lots of veg! The Good Life? You betcha!

In this little English village I'm one of many. Most people grow a few veg in the garden, several have allotments (there'd be more if we had a bigger site) and you have to get your skates on to collect the sloes when they're ripe. Even chicken keeping isn't viewed as odd - there must be at least half a dozen chook-minders that I know of and only 2 are farmers who keep a few but not commercially. Maybe there's a different mentality in a village?

I'm still 'funny' though. I cut up big bits of fabric and then stitch them back together again. I make patchwork quilts!

There's a guy at work (I've mentioned hime before) who thinks I am the saddest person in the world for growing veg and taking part in the Garden Society shows, however he flies model aeroplanes, now that is sad, and he got a bit of a shock when I whipped a 2ft long parsnip out of my handbag one morning and said 'there you are, beat that!'
