i don't know that he is 30 not for sure, i mean he could be 13 himself or 80 for all i know...... he asked for asl ( age, sex, location.) and gave his asl as 30 male home.

Just don't know who, where, what, how old, he, she, actually is.

Well sorry,but if it were me and I had the slightest inkling that some pervy 30 year old had been chatting that way to my 13 year old step daughter I'd be making a report ASAP!!!They have ways & means of getting deleted memory from your computer....even if it turned out that he was actually a teen himself or she told him she were older,I'd rather know I'd made the checks!

OH is contacting his friend ( bit of a whizz on computers ) to see if he can bring it back, then armed with evidence going to police, we will ring SD in the morning ask her about him,

All msn contact lists are held on a server on the net, that way messenger can installed on any computer and as soon as you use your addy it will fetch your contact lists back again, if you know her login details and password you can re-install and check, failing that contact the police and give them the email address she uses with messenger and they should be able to either look into it directly or send you in the right direction to retrieve her contact list.

It depends on the version of messenger used, as PaulG said the latest version dont save the text anymore it has to be enabled, also if you think that the conversations were being recorded but are now deleted you would need to ensure that you dont use the laptop at all because all the files that were deleted they are in fact still on the drive but the space where they are is flagged as available so could easily be overwritten and makes it harder to recover (even with the most modern forensic techniques).

I'd go to the police first - you already have enough cause for concern, not just for the sake of your own SD but other chidren too, and the police will have the technical resources somewhere to get the info out.

Back on topic - I'd also be straight round to the rozzers if a 30rd old had MSN-ed my SD [12 at the moment]. She's had the chat about adults on t'internet and not to trust anyone but saying he is 30.....it could be anyone but best get it checked out.

if i'd have known about the chat logs i would have looked, but its gone now. I will be having a chat with her next time she's down though.

The logs don't get deleted with the program...they are held as .txt files in the win directory.
