Advice on Selling Veg Plants

Hi All

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the weekend.

I have a quick question to ask you all. I am thinking of selling extra VEG plants I grow to friends and maybe on ebay. I will proberly only charge about 50p-�1 per plant ( dont worry not trying to advertise my services) BUT I was wondering if anyone does the same and can they offer me some advice. is selling on Ebay worth the hassle?

I am a first time buyer so just trying to make a bit of money. I know I cant sell VEG from allotment due to the contract but that OK.

Don't think ebay would work....you would have to post them and then ebay take a % as a listing fee.

You may be better selling at bootfairs and put a table at the end of the drive.

Have bought little plants of e bay 25 for �2.50 not much money in it again i would try car boots or friends.

I don't think e bay would be profitable for you at that level. Can you sell from your own garden gate, at work, car boot sale, local press. Depends how much money you want to make. Is it just for next years seeds and compost or are you hoping for a small income.

Dont want to make a HUGE amount of money, just a few extra pennies to buy a few luxurys. I have asked a few guys at work if they would be interested and they say yes - some of them grow a few veg in there back garden. I was thinking car boot sales as well but sometimes u have to buy about �10 to set up and worried I wont make enough money to cover cost.

I think I might give ebay a miss, worried about postage etc. If I do might only allow collection but I realise this will lower my audience.

keep an eye out for gardeners markets combined with boot fairs. We have one a couple of times a year in my neck of the woods and all the stalls seem to do ok. Plants tend to do well cos buying them saves people the hassle of seed sowing etc, yet they still get enjoyment from the plants.

A bloke near us has an open garden a few times a year and sells plants and he has a stall at the school fate and at the church. Does very well but he does donate a lot of it to chraity.

There is a market we have a polly tunnel at the alotment and gow plants to be sold in the trading hut and they go quick.

Buy a packet of Tom seeds now at 25p a few pots from �land and a buy one get one free compost you could grow 60 plants at 50p thats �30 less 25p less �3 for the post and �5 for the compost (if that) Profit of �21.75....

Car boot sales could be the answer Lozza. That way you're in charge and the outlay is small, and if you plan what you are going to sell you could make a few pounds. Take the rest to work and sell them there. Let us know how you get on.

When I think of it another grape sold at car boot sale and made quite a few pounds. Have a search for it.

That may have been me I was fortunate enough to make about �70 pound. And I got some great gardening tips! I didn't have loads to sell either. I sold courgettes, chillis, peppers, tomatoes, watercress and other simple plants.

Thinking of this I have got a shed load of pots that I am never going to use so I am going to plant them up in the Spring and sell them at an Open Garden in aid of CCP <http://www.chernobyl-children.org.uk/index.html> a charity that I support.
