I have just opened a new bottle of my favorite tipple because I have had a very trying day (That's my excuse) And the so and so cork split in half leaving part left in bottle AHHHHGH! PANICK stations.Just about managed to get it out but what am I going to use to keep my lovely port safe..

Buy another bottle - drink it and then use the cork from this for the first bottle - this is called lateral thinking I think hic

After considering all those options, you might want to tie a small piece of foil over the neck of the bottle. (elastic band will hold it better than string, and be more convenient to use). If remnants of cork got into the wine, you need use it up rather more quickly anyway......

If you don't have any of those re-usable corks (I always keep a few in a draw in the kitchen but never seem to use them) then can I suggest pouring thru a tea strainer, in case of any bits of stray cork, into a decanter.
