I also agree that theft has different levels but it doesn't make it right.

If someone came into your garden and nicked some of your home grow veg which has cost virtually nothing, even free if you saved your own seed, you wouldn't have a problem with it then? It is very low level theft but I bet you wouldn't be happy.

I agree that we are talking about a large garden centre here and a few seeds is not going to bankrupt them but does that make it right?

I wonder if the seed packet had been tampered with before you picked it up, Mcbee? These big multi stores are fair game to anyone with half a mind to be less than honest. I was in Wickes last week buying some hardware, wood screws were on my list. I needed a lot so it's cheaper to buy in bulk. I had to search through the trade packs to find ones that were not opened, some were nearly empty. I'm sure that the screws didn't just float away into thin air. The serve yourself stores expect this to happen and build it into the price.(OK, I know I'm just an old cynic )

OK, perhaps this example was a bit over the top BUT the point still stands.

Take the example of someone stealing your vegetables. Very low value and it wouldn't get to court let alone stand up in it, but you would still not be happy with people committing theft of your property. Or would you?

I once found a fiver in a book I had used as a bookmark the last time I read it but that's about it.

Don't worry. Confession - I do it all the time :-( if I only need a few seeds and not a whole packet.

Shops take us for a ride all the time. I think of it as a little discount scheme.

Perhap's next time you go in you will pick a few more packet's to read the blurb and some more seed's may fall out you never know your luck....jacob
