A bit of a winge!

I don't know if this is a peculiarity of the Isle of Wight (or is the Island peculiar?) or not, but aren't a lot of road users rude??? : On our allotment site, the majority (like everywhere else, I'm sure) get on well, are helpful and look out for each other.

Other people on the roads are so bad mannered! They will not let you out at road junctions, they will not say thank you when you let them out and so on. The other day, I let a chap go first, and as he drove past me, he gave me a mouthful for 'holding him up'

I am constantly amazed at the good manner of drivers in this part of North Shropshire. Almost all will stop to let people join traffic, or turn right. As for, Zebra crossings, in 12 years we have only seen one incidence of a driver carrying on when people were waiting to cross and believe me. he was thoroughly condemned by everyone around. When we drive like that at other places,the looks of astonishment are evidence that this is unusual.

In fairness, I have to say that it appears to be only on the road that this sort of behaviour comes up! I try to be a courteous person, but it do get hard at times.

It sounds like you have a lot of imports from Southampton. Some of them here are dreadful. I've had one woman stick her tongue out at me just because as she was turning into a road I was looking in her direction to see what the traffic was doing so I could pull out. She obviously thought I was giving her a funny look!

But yes I quite agree. We have a slight verge to go over to get onto our site (no drop down kerbs) and even though we indicate well in advance and are obviously slowing down have been hooted, nearly rear ended etc. Plus it is on a road where some road users seem to think 50 is the minimum speed. I know in Southampton they seem to think 30 is the recommended speed rather than the maximum. With the state of some of the driving and lack of courtesy (and it isn't solely younger drivers) it's a wonder there aren't more serious and/or fatal accidents.

I try to let it go and just get on with being as courteous as I can (I'm not always perfect if preoccupied) and drive sensibly especially with either Miss E or the rabbit in the car. It's amazing how much abuse of various sorts you get for sticking to the speed limit and trying to drive sensibly.

Readers Digest printed a survey a few months ago which showed that the drivers in the south are generally less courteous than those further north. I wonder if others have found that to be the case?

We suffer the same problems in Skegness; it was one of the first things we noticed when we moved here; inconsiderate drivers. It's bad enough in winter, but it gets worse during the holiday season; the visitors are worse than the locals. I have to drive to Lincoln on a daily basis as part of my job and I'm sure tractor get a kick out seeing how big a queue they can cause before pulling over. Wouldn't move back though.

My pet hate about cars/drivers is no one seems to use indicators, maybe it is an optional extra and they don't come fitted as standard

People driving through our village go far to fast many well over 70mph and it is a 30

My pet hate is that people think they don't have to use indicators on the motorway or that one lane is for slow traffic and the middle is for overtaking and the outside lane is for idiots who feel like showing off their mid-life crisis at 100mph. That and I hate lorries. How do people pass their tests? What is the goddamn hurry? They hurry to work and hurry home? Who the hell hurries to work? "Hey love, it's 7:00am on a Monday morning and I've just had a great weekend with the family, you know what would top it off? If I could tear arse down the motorway whilst talking on my mobile to the office". Why? And home, unless you've done something bad, will still be there when you get home and the people who live there would like you to get back in one piece. Don't people realise that when you crash, you have a habit of merging with your vehicle?

andrewo what is it about lorries that you dont like? Have to ask as I drive one at the weekends and up to Jan of this year I clocked ten years behind the wheel of an artic averaging 120,000 miles a year .I've no points on my license and as you can see I come from N.Ireland so we all know that we are a bunch of holligans in lorries over here. Covered the whole of the UK in the previous 10 years and never had any problems .
By the way do you all know that your car speedo is inaccurate. If you check it with a good satnav you will find that when it says that you are going at 40 mph you are probably only doing 37 mph. Dosent seem much but if you are on a service contract they get an extra service from you every two years.And what if you are on a fixed mileage contract?

What really made me mad this afternoon (and every afternoon this week) is the idiot who lets his primary school-age (5-7?) grandson (I presume grandchild) sit in the front passenger seat unbelted (don't know if there is a child booster seat) and with the front passenger window down so the child can lean out the window while the car is moving.

First noticed it when going through the roadworks on the M6 in Birmingham. All the cars were going at 34- 35 mph but then I realised that their speedos were telling them that they were doing 40

To be fair the drivers around Preston, or so I've found aren't too bad, on the whole. Yes, of course there are always the a*******s who are pushy and bad mannered, but in Bamber Bridge (where I used to work) everyone was really polite!
Now, having moved "north of the river" as we say around here to work in Ashton, Preston, to get home I have to come out of a side road onto a main road - I sit there looking hopeful - and on every occasion some kind person has let me in!
Mind you - I always smile, wave and say thank you! But then I'm that kinda girl! DDL
PS I don't do this for taxi drivers! Sorry! Now they are rude and pushy - or so I've found! I know this doesnt apply to all taxi drivers!
