I am now officially (according to my son) the worst mother in the world

He doesn't like the hair dresser/barber and prefers his hair long (grunge/emo look) - except when the fringe gets out of hand. Well he nagged me into cutting it (which I have done for nearly 14yrs) and I kind of got it wrong so it is a good 1 1/2cm above his eyebrows - he now looks like the lead singer of the Ramones (if Joey Ramone had let his mum cut his hair).

He was upset enough then OH took one look then disolved in giggles, now he is refusing to go to school tomorrow - and I'm banned from ever cutting his hair again

And embarrassing them with my dancing at school discos (oh yes I will be there and so will his dad and his dancing is baaaaaad

Oh dear... I'm sorry, but that's dissolved me into giggles too
Only because I've been there... Last year, cutting my then 13 year old son's hair with the clippers and the attachment fell off Poor boy had a lovely near bald chunk right in the middle of his head I seem to remember that being quite a costly exercise 'compensating' for his embarrassment!

Oh no, I've already said I'll take him to the hairdressers (disguised as a dental appt for the school) - do I now have to pay damages? I've just forked out �15 faerie money for 3 teeth removed at the dentists!

My friend cut her husband's hair with the clippers the night before their son's wedding. Her husband pointed out where she had missed a bit at the side so she re-did it, forgetting to put the attachment back in, resulting in a bald swathe all down the side of his head, he had to stand with that side of his head facing away from the camera for every photo!

Been there done it bought the T shirt. My son actually called me a bl**dy incompetantwoman! Didnt help that I couldnt stop laughing either

My son (18) asked me to cut his hair 2 hours before going to the school prom . His hair is very thick, and was past his shoulders. Doing it in a hurry, and being stressed, it didn't go well, to put it mildly. He wouldn't let me use the clippers becasue he said it would be too short, and kept dashing off to the mirror to see what it looked like! We gelled and spiked it into something reasonable (sort of), but when he got up the next day after staying at his friends it looked truly awful.
He still wouldn't go have it cut professionally, and it was a week before I could steel myself to have another go. This time I told him he would have it how I could cut it, and amazingly I did a really good job, using the clippers to cut the bottom layers shorter, but the scissors for a longer top layer. Looked as if he'd been to an expensive hairstylist. Stress does terrible things to a haircut

lol nope I'm afraid you cannot be the worst mum.... you didn't sever any limbs, put said child in hospital for more than a week...... but just given him an opertunity for a lifetime of therapy ..... lol cheers to all who've posted, made me smile!

I do my 4 yr olds and OH's with the clippers. 1/2 inch all over for the pair of them Not forgotten yet to put the guards on...... I'm fast now too, took me ages when I first started! Now I can even clip and talk much like a real hairdresser - 'are you going on holiday this year?'

Not done the toddlie's yet will wait til he's 2 at least (the hairdresser trims him), he looks too young and cute for the 'janeyo army cut' lol

i've always cut my sons hair since he became phobic about hairdressers when he was about 2 ....... i always did a good job too, till i decided he should have a skinhead at the beginning of the summer holidays ....... without telling him ..... whoops ........ actually it would have looked ok if he hadn't been out in the sun the week before ....... and the bit where the hair had been wasn't 'quite' the same colour

thats you and me both this week then, after nagging him for weeks about his out of control hair, he finally admitted it needed 'thinning' , my arse, i took the clippers to it, it looks fantastic, he hates me.
everyone else in the world says it looks great, i am the mother from hell till it grows back( at least 2 years)

agreement stands, he can grow it again by all means, but i take no responsibility in future for cutting it, its barber time my boy!!!

What's wrong with long hair? My hair is 2" below my shoulders. My last visit to a barbers was just before Christmas the time before that was in May 2005.
My mother(80) doesn't like it.
But at the age of 60 I've learnt to ignore her.

nothing wrong with it at all!
i liked it, but........ he has very thick hair that goes into ringlets when it gets long, so my point is if he wants to grow it fine, but a pro needs to keep it as it needs to be, i can't, so he needs to see a barber/hairdresser, and not insist his mum cuts it
son2 has fine dead straight hair, tis also long, but easy to style, i am a jack of all trades, son1 needs a master of one.

Nowt wrong with long hair.My 18yr old son has hair nearly long enough to sit on and theres no way he would let me loose on it!
