Hard question - loofas!

I bought myself a loofa about two weeks ago. I've had it soaking in the bath every night when I have a bath, but the darn thing is still rock hard! I know they don't soften up that much, but blimey! Has anyone got any ideas?

warm it with water, apply a little olive oil....put in microwave for a minute or two

Tried softening mine in the bath - it went mouldy! Bleached it but it went patchy. Decided to stay with rough and scratchy lol!
