How Much for Shed?

If you have a car Parkers Guide says is worth �300, then spend �500 on repairs, Parkers Guide still says it's worth �300! What's spent on it is irrelevant really.

The bloke sounds like a complete prat, and I would definitely have told him that he's got a time limit to remove it, or accept what you've offered.

You can buy a brand spanking new shed for less than �200, Tell him to remove it by a certain date.

You can get a 6x4 Garden Shed from B&Q for �105.... we bought one for our ducks and chooks, put it up in a weekend...

Here, here to what most other people have said after your conversation with this delightful (so not) man ! He's obviously trying it on big time, so tell him to take his shed and walk. I do appreciate that having an in situ shed is a bonus, but it's equally important that you're not ripped off - imagine if you spent over �100 on it and then it fell to pieces in a few months time.

This sort of hassle is something you could do without, you just want to enjoy your new allotment. My bet is that if you call his bluff you may still end up with the shed anyway! Good luck, and don't let it get to you - personally I find things like this have the capacity to quite upset me if I let them, as he sounds an unpleasant type.

Call him back, tell him that since his shed is on your land, you will be charging him ground rent of �15 per night, as you cannot replace it until it is moved. After 14 nights, if the shed remains, you will take it that he no longer wishes to take the shed. Put it in writing and get his address from the allotment manager/ask him over the phone.

If he liked the shed so much, why did he leave it there? Was he given 12hrs to vacate the plot or something? I really don't see why YOU should have hassle, because HE was too disorganised to take his belongings and then comes up with 'sell it' as an afterthought.

At what point did he want to sell the shed? Was this mooted around BEFORE he left, or after? If after, it's questionable whether he even has a right to take it, as he's no longer a tenant! I also don't think he can legally charge for labour, when the construction was for HIS benefit and not contracted by you. There's a posh legal term for it, but gawd knows what it is!

I'm sure there is someone else who wants the shed, but can they be bothered to move it. Stick to your guns and tell him if he does not except your offer then take it away within a week let say. It may have cost him a lot but it is now 2nd hand and for the hassel of moving he could cut his losses.

18 months ago I put up a shed when I got my plot, dug a small pond and put logs and a bench around it, 8 arches up for fruit at the end of paths, constructed loads of raised beds, even a large bed made from railway sleepers, stakes for raspberry structures, some flagstone paths and others still cardboard topped with carpet, 3 compost bins, 4 water butts, extra long hosepipe, loads of leaf mulch, manure, compost etc etc. However when/if I move on and leave my plot behind, then I am more than happy for the next person to reap the rewards. Don't think I want to come back and view, as the next person may rip most of it up and put it back to a traditional plot.

I think the guy is just being petty and I wouldn't do any further business with him. Is he going to compensate you if he's left club root etc? I'd speak with whoever contacted you about the plot and let them know what he's up to and get them to contact him and have the shed removed within a certain timescale or accept that it is no longer his.
