Sainsburys whooohooo

Just watching Sky news, as of 5th Feb Sainsburys will no longer sell eggs laid by caged hens. They were only supposed to do this in 2010 but have decided to bring it forward.

Be interesting to see how the other supermarkets catch up?

Lets see if Sainsburys will only sell roaming free/free range chickens? I prefer to pay that little extra for a free range chicken.

I saw that in the Daily Mail this morning. Lets hope the other supermarkets follow suit.
Also read an article in there on the way pigs are raised in Poland, makes you not want to eat sausage and bacon.

I don't ... I'm a veggie! It's scary when you think how intelligent pigs are.... I have no problem with people eating meat, or farming animals to eat, but at least give them a decent life. OH also says the meats better if the animals have be "free range"

I agree. It goes for vegetables to. I brought some carrots from Asda today and they don`t taste of anything, home grown tastes best.

I wonder if they also have plans to only use free range in their other products... cakes, mayo... etc?

u bought carrots????? we are still eating ours from the harvest last year..........ALDI carrots taste like carrots but not as good as home grown

The Co-op took this stand quite a while back...and now also any of their own brand stuff is made using F.R eggs.(at least down our way!)

Not that i can afford it but a friend who shops at M and S says they only use Free Range eggs in all their products.

Thanks beefy i will, just been up to Sainsbogs and they are selling 15 free range eggs for �2.00. Scrambled egg for lunch, yummy!

Good news.......

I only use Hellmans for the same reason and only buy free range chook and prefer to buy FR pork but if not available will only buy pork if it states categorically on the wrapping reared on British Farms. The standards in Europe are atrocious.....

I use Hellmans .... the fuss they made with all those adverts when they switched to using free range made me laugh though, seeing as they only changed after being totally put on the spot by JO during his campaign, when they admitted that they had been using ( same as all the others) liquified egg, which is totally disgusting, he fronted them on the show and they agreed to change over by this year, they did manage to do it early though, so I happily switched to Hellmans despite the price because they kept their word.
