Where does the word 'Salop' come from?

I heard recently that this abbreviation comes from the Greek Chi, or X in English, for the first letter of Christ. I still hate it, though, but not as much as 'Chrimbo'.

Surrey isn't worth shortening, either. I'm also another who texts in full, with apostrophes and all! Proud of it!

Anyone that hates abbreviations as a whole should avoid working in Science at all costs! It drives me nuts, sometimes!

Yikes! I must have annoyed you towards the end of last year... despite my liking things wrote down proper, I do confess to using the occasional Chrimbo... sorry. I just think it sounds jolly and we use to say it as kids...

I hate abbreviations as well - and loathe text speak (just can't see how m8 and l8r is easier than writing mate and later). As a result of this my texts are like short stories, full words and punctuation...ever time!

However, Nicos...I write Xmas too.

I do use text talk mainly because if I didnt my text's would be pages long lol !!! What gets me is on the computer my daughter uses words, things whatever they are called and even her brothers dont always get it. Abbreviations are ok in some cases but not all the time. I hate xmas instaed of christmas too.

Abbreviations, making things shorter.
Seems everything they can cut back on these days they do. Abbreviations of wonderful names, Warwickshire becomes Warks, sounds like a noise a seal makes!!
People are getting so lazy with the English language, i am in education and the abbreviations and 'speak' that is used is baffling, we have SEF's, SIDP's, SLT's and it goes on!!
