ok there is a simple solution, go and change your name by deed poll, to your name now, then you can use your birth certificate and passport along with your deed poll change, get the council tax or a bill in joint names, and make sure you are on the electoral roll .... sorted

i used to know i guy who changed his name to .... bolt upright (i have known some very strange people ) ...... and he had a bank account lol

once you have changed your name by deed poll it is your legal name ..... and it's a legal binding document ...... they can't not accept it, and it's not ridiculously expensive either

no you can get away with not getting a new passport, till it runs out, then you can renew it with your deed poll, all you have to do is use the deed poll change form and your current passport ...... i thought the deed poll was much cheaper than that though .....

I've got one. Thing is, their interest rate is less than 2% now, so I am trying to change to a 4% savings account.

Have you thought about trying to transfer the existing account to the new bank / BS?

i changed my name by statutory declaration, not sure of costs now, but it does the same thing as the Deed Poll, but was cheaper. I found a copy on line, retyped it to put my 'names' in, befores and after, took it along to my solicitor who countersigned it (is that the right terminology) and was all legal. (Didn't cost me anything coz i'd typed it myself, and he was the solicitor i was using for my divorce).

I can't get a bank account, because i went bankrupt in 2005. I opened an account with the local Credit Union, and then was able to use that documentation to open a building society account.

I'm with Yorkshire Building Society, have the card account (not much interest), and an online account (which pays a lot more interest) so any spare (very sparingly spare) cash i transfer to the online account, and when need it transfer it back. Can have standing orders and direct debits paid out of the card account. So works well for me. Anything i need to pay for online or over the phone i use my prepaid credit card. So have everything covered, and no chance of getting out of my depth in debt.

Just my twopence worth or is ha'pence worth now due to the crunch/inflation/deflation or whatever it is we're in.

Can you not set up an online ISA savings from your current bank - I have done this with SD's NatWest account, the interest is very good

My son has been having this same problem which I said on here a while ago. His dad bought him a passport got the gp to sign for him only the gp signed in the wrong colour ink blue instead of black so he had to do it again luckily the gp waived the �35 it cost second time as it was his fault. Son is still trying to get it sorted, he has an appointment in person with the passport office as its his first passport so they can see for themselves its him.

I have a little idea, to save without a bank account, buy postage stamps....then when you have enough take them to the shop and tell them that they are indeed legal tender!!!

I was thinking that one day i would like to open up a bank account in the UK, cause they pay better interest rates than we get here, but it sounds like i will never be able to do it. Its doesn't sound very user friendly.
