Thanks, the new insulation arrived today. All the vents are definitely clear, OH has been on belly in loft and checked them all. The insulation isn't blocking anything. We think most of the 'hot air' came from the tumble drier going straight up.

Bummer. At least we know now and can hopefully sort it and re-use the loft again.

I wear a slightly different hat now from the residential days - I analyse building defects and monitor repairs etc but we get hundreds of condensation complaints this time of year with many different causes. All the best JA

There is a company which specialises in cleaning difficult items like rugs, tapestries and down-filled sleeping bags They won't be able to solve your condensation problem, but they might be able to clean up some of your stuff

If you do have mould on baby clothes and bedding be very careful about using them again as fungal spores can be very persistent

Don't store things like bedding or clothes in bin-bags or you are bound to get condensation Make up some bags from breathable material like old sheets

Our normal workload has dropped dramatically. On our new build sites the sites are all nearly all closing down. Houses that can be made wind and watertight are having doors and windows installed to empty shells; if they are not up to first floor joist level - we've had some demolished back to slab level and left as they are, which means some of the big boys are not planning to start building again any time soon and in another sign of the times repossession inspections have doubled.......

There is some interest in the show homes but mostly people asking what special deals are going on. One national housebuilder had an offer a few weeks ago like the supermarkets - Buy one get 50% off the second...... don't know if it's still going on - very strange market at the moment. Another builder up north made the national news last weekend - he was providing a "free brand new Aston Martin" on the drive if you bought one of his £1m + homes - I'd rather have the house discounted if I had a spare £1m however....... still, it got him on the national TV news.
