Feel a bit silly but...

I read in a thread recently about the huge variety of topics being posted on (the ones that are bob-all to do with gardening) and the tone seemed a teeny bit critical of the fact.

Since then I've felt a bit bashful as I've realised that since "summer" ended, I've got close to nothing to add to many gardening threads as I've never had the space to properly grow winter stuff! I chip in where I can (generally floating around in herb or food areas) but I'm reading the advice (and storing it!) rather than being in a position to give any!

So, anyway. I wanted to get that off my chest so I can get excited about the GYO pantomime without feeling like I'm just here for the laughs and sandwiches!

i was thinking the other day ....... theres not much gardening going on ...... theres really not much to do ........ so what's the problem ........ i haven't done any gardening other than pulling up dead flowers and harvesting the odd thing for about 2 months ........ and i thought it was supposed to be fun ....... whoever it was tell em to go shove it, and lets have a larff till we all get busy again

Rhona,I ocassionally feel the same...but then have a look at the title of this forum/thread...CHIT-CHAT....something NON GYO to get off your chest!!Enjoy the giggles & don't feel bad...I can't remember my last serious contribution(...or if indeed I ever actually have???)...but as far as I can tell,this section is deffo for "other stuff"..so shake off the guilt & get on & enjoy!!

Rhona, I know the thread you're on about and affected me the same way - I'd considered leaving the vine for a bit as my only contributions seemed to be of a non-gardening related nature in the main, and not being here would be the easiest way of me not posting.

But damned this addictive place, I can't get away.

i think you will find that you are not alone, i don't contribute much to the garden stuff, probably only about 10% is relevant to gardening/allotments etc. but the randomness of some of the topics is why i prefer this site to others. variety is refreshing and we do all have a basic interest in common. otherwise why join?

i don't agree with all that is posted here, but then it is my choice to read the thread or not and ultimately join in or ignore it.

Everyone is made to feel at home and welcome here and grudges are few and quickly forgotten (I Hope) which is why I keep coming back.

As a beginner to gardening the non-gardening threads allow me to feel part of the community without being scared off by all the clever gardening knowledge, learning lots reading the gardening ones and searching when I is stuck!! As a single working mum with no social life it gives me the opportunity to chat to like minded folk on whatever subject

hi wayne,are you not 1 of our entertainment/take peeps out of themselves,kind of person ,after all we all need a cheer up at times lad,and someone has to do it,so you see,you do have a place to fill,carry on the fun i say ,even if i don't join in ,i still have a laugh at the antics that go on.

I like the Chit Chat threads ... Wayne, Lynda and Bride's posts really cheer me up when I can't get in the garden for weeks and weeks.

It's like being up the allotment ... I don't talk much gardening with my lotty neighbours, we go off about all sorts of things

I don't see why every post on here has to be about gardening. You don't talk just about gardening if you chat to someone down at the allotment do you? The socialising side of this site is very important and very valuable.

Missed that post too. Anway I planted 40 garlic cloves yesterday 2 more bulbs to go - gulp - no room and that'll be it again for a while. Do people just think we are just here for the gardening then, I thought we were more of an allotment community who do manage to talk about other things. This is my fave site and so it will remain as long as you lot are all here

Bummer! I missed the thread too - it was probably one of those I ignore. I don't read all the threads because, as Kernowyon said some of them simply don't interest me but that's not to say they aren't good.

I don't feel experienced enough YET to pass on a lot of knowledge but I always love to have a laugh and goodness knows, I certainly get thet here.

I have made some fantastic friends on here real and virtual and I for one say - chit chat, BRING IT ON!

I feel a bit the same as Rhona! I only joined here a while ago! It was too late in the year for me to grow much when my gardening appetite returned late this summer! I have not grown anything for quite a few years, except for a huge family of triffids in my back garden. I have been too busy with work and just not had the motivation. The family of triffids has mostly been cleared now ready to start a fresh next year! Therefore I have nothing to add to the gardening related threads for this year and have next to no seeds to offer for now. I am determined to change that for next year though!!

I am however learning loads of interesting tips on just about everything and finding that there are some great and fun people on here! I guess we all have to start somewhere and am looking forward to next year and some home grown food from my small garden!

Keep up the chit chat what harm can it do? We all need some fun in our lives especially with this down in the dumps economy!! A little fun should not hurt anybody. I guess some people just need to get a sense of humour and loosen up a little.

I spend more time in general chat and the chook threads. If I have a garden/plant query, I often get it answered without having to post. A search usually finds what I am looking for.
I love this forum, its friendly and sociable.
