Baby has sight problem

Thanks everyone. Tammy that site looks very useful I will pass it on. On the plus side she is a lovely looking baby but very white as is the tiny bit of hair she has, also her eyes are very blue. She has a lovely smile and good hearing. They also have a 3 year old daughter who is ok. Mum is only 26 but has already decided not to have anymore children and has already been sterilised. The risk of having prem baby's is high as both were early.

arrr so sorry Jackie to hear the sad news, I am sure with the love and support of her family that she will overcome many obstacles in her life. My son is disabled and defo get her to claim DLA and there are other great sites like THE FAMILY FUND, they help with the costs of things, like toys or specialist equipment and they are a charity, there are lots of charities out there specifically for the disabled.

With DLA, you neice wont be able to claim the mobility part until her daughter is over 3, but then she can and if she receives high rate mobility then she will be able to receive a Blue Badge.

Sorry to hear about your Grand-niece Jackie. This information might be of some use to you: In Tameside (just outside Manchester), there is a visual impairment service who visit children at home to give advice and also to play with the child. I think they bring along toys and may be able to advise on where you can get similar toys. I think they also go into schools as the child gets older and can advise staff on how best to educate the child etc.

We also have a Portage service who go to home and help to develop play skills. Some also lend out toys and may be able to advise on any local support groups or toy libraries which can allow you to try out a toy before purchase.

I don't know what services are available in your area, but both of the above are quite common. A GP or health visitor should be able to refer into both of these services if they are available in your area.
