The garden is the reason we (I) chose this house. It's small, but it's south facing. We get the sun from dawn to dusk
But I'm having to water my tomatoes twice a day

It's all lawn at the moment, but that is going to be cut away and flowers put in for next year. We've already got the Light Sabres on in the garden (solar powered light sticks), before we get it planted up. They're not at all subtle at the moment

Trust me, neither was ours, but with a couple of rugs even concrete was preferable to the cat smelling carpet and real friends understand.

Have you tried anything like this Simple solution stain and odour remover I used it to clean up some doggy diarrhoea and it worked a treat. I bought it from Pet/smart/city/at home or whatever it is called now and I notice they have a carpet cleaner. I'm guessing it might be a bit pricey but not as expensive as a new carpet

firstly congrats on the move TS, did this last October and know the stresses of it all, once you get it around to your way you will be fine.

As a newly adopted cat owner, he is only allowed in the kitchen and study, where there are no carpets and i bought him a litter tray just in case, (he has been done so no spraying), but if he peed once, he would feel my boot up his backside and would only be allowed in the garden!!! lol!!!

(he adopted us 2 weeks ago as his previous owners moved and he wouldnt settle, we know the old owner and she has asked her to look after him, much to the kids delight and not mine or OH, mind you he is sweet!)

We had our cat "done" & he managed years of no spraying~until the day a straggly old Tom peed up our front door & must've awoken certain cat feelings in him & he started spraying up the inside of the front door to reclaim his territory!!It was totally rank,just wanted you to know it's not a guarantee!!~sorry!

congrats on the new place. rubbish about the cat wee i don't understand that, i have 2 tom cats one was a litter untrained kitten and still i've never had wee on the carpet!! to be fair my new place smelt of human wee, not sure which is worse!!

remember it may take a while but starting from scratch means you get to do things ur way so make the most of it.

by the way i'm sure that you are not supposed to drink (port) and then operate heavy machinary (vax)

I'm now sure that I'm one of the very lucky cat owners who's cat has NEVER ever wee'd or poo'd in the house. Not even when she'd been run over, had 2 operations to mend her broken chest and leg, came out of hospital after a week, all bandaged up and refused to use the litter tray unless it was put outside for her. Bless My mum is really sensitive to cat smells, and she assures me that there's no sign at all of a cat living in my house - even though I've had her for 8 years. I wish all cats were like her and all cat owners were like me so that the puss-cats don't all get tarred with the same brush.

I do feel sorry for you though, cat wee is the most horrible smell of all time, and the most difficult to get rid of. Can't offer any solution to your problem though, sorry

We had the same problem when we moved in here - someone else's cat getting in through the cat-flap whilst the house was empty and spraying in various corners, we'd have had to replace 3 carpets to get rid of it
We discovered, after trying carpet-cleaner, vinegar, bicarb, etc., etc., that Lemon Toilet Cleaner is the best thing to get rid of the smell - dilute it a bit in cold water & liberally pour it over the area. Leave it for a bit then use kitchen towel to soak it back up again. Might take a couple of goes, but it works. And the animals don't like the smell of lemon, so they avoid that bit afterwards. Eventually, you can carpet-cleaner it again.

I never used to drink untill after I had a heart attack.

I had to go to rehab, where they had exercises etc and also talks on leading a healthy life after an attack. It was here that they impressed on me the benefits of red wine, a couple of glasses a day is good for you.

I think I'm OK now then till at least 2020

Lemon Toilet Cleaner is the best thing to get rid of the smell -

The cat seems to have had 2 favourite corners to pee in ... behind the TV, and behind the stereo unit. Both places full of sockets, wires, cables ... shame it didn't electrocute itself


I've also inherited two Daleks full of slimy grass clippings. Compared to the cat pee, it smells pleasant. I am in the process of digging it out and putting it back in mixed with lots of shredded paper, to try and rot it properly.

Congrats on the move. We moved 3 years ago and were still upsidedown(OH`s fault as most of his woodworking stuff is at the back of the living room as he is still building the workshop).
Our house smelt for weeks of TCP, we don`t know why but they must of cleaned everywhere with it.
As for the cat pee smell we have a geriatric 16 year old cat who is religated to the bathroom as he has had 2 strokes and can`t walk very well. (vet say`s as long as his quality of life is ok ie he can still eat, drink etc. he`s fine)
His littertray is in the bathroom and so is his food but just lately he has taken to peeing on the landing( OH left his stinky trainers there and the cat thought it funny to pee in them, must of smelt like his littertray). I have thrown away said trainers but the cat still pees there, luckly he poos in the littertray. Anyway I found Fabrezee fabric spay gets rid of the smell.

Well done on moving into your house-with-a-south-facing-garden. You won't regret that bit. Our house had a lingering (for several months) smell of tobacco smoke. We ditched the 20 year old nasty carpet, had all our own curtains etc, but still it lingered. When we ripped off the textured wallpaper in the kitchen - it went!

Soon this will just be a memory but when you're living through it, it's no joke. Chin up kid!

you might find after all the carpet cleaning, that it's actually the floor boards that smell, so don't forget them too ....... and when you've bleached/lemon toilet cleaner/ or whatevered the floorboards, let it dry, then stick a couple of packets of bicarb under the carpet.
