Bye Son

Said Goodbye to son no 1 today as he moved to Scotland to start his new life with his Girlfriend[shed a few tears,no bawled my eyes out]
Won't see him now till the new year.I know it's not that far away but it might as well be!!!

Write him a lovely letter, and then send it or don't send it, whatever makes you feel better. Think of how wonderful New Year is going to be... ('specially if it's in Scotland..)

Got to admit much as I'm enjoying watching mine grow up & gaining little bits of independance along the way~I'm dreading them "properly" growing up & flying away from home!!No doubt you'll find lots of ways to keep in touch,& then come New Year think of what a massive party to be had!! I'm glad that so far all four of my sons have decided to stay nearby, sometimes too near!!!
I'm sure you will miss him but look forward to seeing him again and just think of the party's you could have.

My eldest lives in Spain. Been there around 6 years now with his family.I found it hard going the first year as missed him and my grandchildren terribly. They used to be round here every day. Now though I am pleased he has made a new life for himself and his family and when we do meet up it is even more special. I still shed a few tears at Christmas but if he is happy then I am happy too.

my parents live in spain, but they lived in lincolnshire for 20 odd years, and i left home when i was 16 anyway, and yes i'm totally happy about it, cos i get free holidays not that i've been yet (they've only been there 3 years lol) ... i'm a lot closer to my son than i was to my parents, and i'd be happy for him to live at home for as long as he wants .... i will miss him not being here ..... maybe it's cos he's my only one?

My mam used to write to me when I first went to college, it was nice, I got to see a different side of her, that you don't get normally. Words are good, letters are better.

My son left home and was originally going to rent a house with a couple of mates.

One dropped out and they found it really expensive to run a house (no I would never have guessed) so decided to move back home.

His sister was measuring up his room even as he was trying to move out and was in there like a flash.

Now we had a typical modern 3(?) bedroom house and the "box" room was not really big enough for him and could only accomodate a single bed, which must have made things interesting when his girlfriend stayed.

So like dotting (stupid) partents, we spent an inheritance I got on having an en suite extention built for him.

He is threatening to move out again this year, will be sad to see him go but glad in other ways.

It's not goodbye really- just think of it as 'see you soon' and 'will speak to you on the phone' or 'I'll text/e-mail you'

You'll probably get on much better when you meet up again as he'll of had time to move on and mature.

Still it's going to be a bit strange but when the last child moves out you'll be able to sleep in the nuddy and start 'doing' interesting(!!) things again which you've probably forgotten about by now!!!!!

A good cry is good- it shows you that you've almost completed the 'job' of bringing an adult into the world!

Haha, this reminded me of a story, my next door neighbour told me a couple of weeks ago. He fixes telephones (ex BT engineer), and he called to a house locally to move a socket in a bedroom, didn't take long, but while he was there the lady asked if he could come and check her parents house, they were in their 80's. He followed her across town, and she opened their front door waltz in and on into the lounge. He noticed a huge plasma screen tv on the wall, the lady screamed, and when he turned around the parents were sat like sacks of spuds in the buff on the sofa. That'll teach kids to treat their parent home as their own.
