Poor dogs - angry HF

Mine knows I'mthe boss! She's very good, but also knows to bark if people approach when I'm camping in the middle of nowhere.

However, her sister is a bit odd - very open-minded when it comes to food - she has been known to pick just one pear a day off the tree and eat it, and also to eat dead flies from the conservatory floor.

sorry i was playing with you a bit (i needed cheering up...... and my dogs asleep lol) where would have been the fun in telling you at the beginning .... had you going though didn't it, i bet you were just dying to get round here and sort her problem owner out ... anyway i hope you can see the funny side now (imagine yourself getting all flustered with steam coming out your ears, whilst trying to tell the STUPID woman, how bad she is to her dog for making it wear a coat in the rain) (she does wear antlers and a red nose at christmas, and she has been dressed as an easter egg before (bet you're shuddering now huh??))

i would probably say shes one dog you really don't need to worry about, lol ..she may sound neurotic, but actually she's pretty well balanced for a rat ..... i'm far more neurotic than she is lol

One thing that animals and dogs have taught me (amongst many other things) is to remain calm assertive at all times, so they have actually helped me achieve balance in return it seems for the help I have given them.

So sorry to disappoint you but there was no steam coming out of my ears, i was just trying to get to the bottom of the problem with probing questions as humans quite often put up smoke screens to the real issues going on, thats the difference if I see a dog in a live situation, coz the dog always gives me the full story if the owner does not.

Anyway it was a useful exercise and hopefully some peeps have leant a few things to help their dogs achieve a balanced state as mother nature intended.

yeah and they might have learned that it's ok for dogs to wear antlers at xmas? lol * wonders if i should mention here, that my cats get tinsel attached to their collars at xmas,not for any reason other than, i just think it looks cute* (or should i quit while i'm ahead?)

Its not something that I would do personally, but as long as it isnt causing the animal any distress and there arent things they can swallow or get there collar caught on stuff and strangle themselves as a result (i have seen a dog who was left at home and he jumped up and got his collar stuck on a nail and died, its not a pleasant sight I can assure you) then I can't see a problem with it.

Sometimes to help an owner with a high energy dog to drain more energy on a walk I suggest they get a dog 'backpack' and load it with water, books a brick or two depending on the size of the dog, the dogs love it and it also helps to drain them of energy as they now have a physcilogical challenge as well as a physical one and they seem to view it as a job to carry stuff and it seems to give them a purpose in life.

if they got distressed i wouldn't do it, and the collars are quick release so if they get caught on anything, the collar breaks, and my big cat has lost 8 collars in a year, so they definitely work

it's funny, my dog has loads of energy, but she is sooooo lazy, and if i stuck a brick on her back, she'd have a fit lol ...... i have always had collies/ x collies before her, and they are a lot more hard work to keep occupied, but obedience training, agility, etc, goes a long way towards it too, and they love it.

Do you need to keep Huskies with other dogs?
Are they friendly?

The people we got Spirit from had four Huskies, 1 Boarder Collie and 1 jack Russell and they all seamed to get on ok. Also they had a parrat.

OK you know I don't do dogs but if I had to have one it would be a Wolf Dog but I think they are banned,so it would be a Husky cos they remind me of wolve's

Wolf dogs are not banned as such, defra bottled it making a decision and have left it up to local councils to judge whether they are dangerous dogs or not, which is a complete joke as it is highly unlikely anyone at a local council will have enough knowledge to make a decision.

As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, wolf dogs are a completely different animal to a domestic dog, not advisably unless you really know what you are doing, would love to see Lynda try and dress up a wolf dog, there wouldnt be much left of her lol.

funny that, i had a stallion in once, that was 4 years old had a bad accident and was terrified of people, literally climbed the walls to get away, then try to bite and kick.... he was supposed to be evil ...... took me 6 months and i was competing on him in small show jumping competitions ....... no one had ever managed to get in the stable with him before never mind ride him.

i prefer mental animals that no one can do anything with, much more satisfaction ...... so i'd love to have a go with a wolf dog ...... would be dead cute in a leather jacket

LOL, but joking a side they use very similar techniques with horses as with dogs, the horse whisperers seemed to get the idea long before dog behaviourists.
