Dummy CCTV cameras? Sounds like the thieves will be too thick to realise there is no electricity there (or maybe there is for that matter). "This area protected by CCTV" signs may be enough ... like those Speed Camera signs all over the place with not a camera to be found ...

I'm of the firm opinion that like alarms, no one takes much notice of these. The culprits will just pull up a hoody and carry on. Cameras, can often be a sign of something of interest for the criminal, especially when its on a secluded unguarded site. Can you see how my mind works, its warped innit.

I don't have the answer but, security cameras need lights to see or they are rendered pretty useless, so motion sensors are also required, the council will never foot the bill for this, the end doesn't justify the means to them.

I'd go for the 10ft barbed, and electrified fence myself, with tripwires and tar pools.

I reckon you may be right. I wonder if a movement sensor and bright flash could be rigged off a battery? Maybe the effect of a flash-gun going off would cause scumbags to think they had been photographed. There again, they might then just vandalise the flash-thing.

There's a really long waiting list for one of these.

As for the rest of it my mum (not normally renown for her psychic powers) actually predicted this sort of thing would start to happen way back before Christmas. Our site was broken into a couple of weeks ago, but they still seemed to 'just' be after tools, as is normal. I'm sure it won't be long before someone realizes that the crops might be worth taking though

You don't need to refer to their race ... just say you know who it was.

Are we now so desperately politically correct (or frightened) that we can't say that an Asian person, a Scottish person, a Frenchman, or whoever stole something from our allotment? An allotment neighbour had 5 hens stolen last year and we are certain that they were taken by some eastern European vagrants who are camping nearby! (And if I knew their nationality I would tell you!)
