Like it or loathe it, Bookface has it's uses.

I was just reading an article in Marketing Weekly about the permanent re-launch of Cadburys' Wispa bar, and I quote "Cadbury claims it was reintroduced following a Facebook campaign last summer..."

Earlier in the year I spent ages playing around on F/B. Once I got my head round the way it worked I posted lots of favourite YouTube music videos. Just lately I've got bored with it. Activities like 'throwing' and 'biting' aren't really my style. But then it's not really aimed at people like me!

Sorry I'm feeling very sarcastic today. I dont get Facebook at all. everybody I know has a Facebook account and Ive asked them what is the point and they all say the same things "you can talk to all your friends", "you can see each others pictures", "you can talk to people you havnt seen for ages". my responce is why cant you email/text/phone your friends. Why cant you show your friends your piccies or email them. Anybody Im not in contact with is somebody I dont want to be in contact with.
Im sorry facebook will remain a mystery to me!

I've found myself slowly blocking application after application. These days I use it for Scrabulous and event planning - that's about it really.

It did prove very useful for finding someone I lost touch with about 10 years ago - now, as long as neither of us deletes our profile in a disappearing act, we should just about manage to keep in touch, even if it's just a game of scrabulous every now and again.

I spend way too much time on there, and its pointless, but I still do it :S
I hate that people I went to school with etc want to 'friend' me but not bother talking to me, They prob didnt like me back in the day, why 'collect' me now??

Its funny you said that because Ive always wondered about that. It seems to me that people boast about how many friends they have om myspace and facebook and it is like collecting people and is very playgroundish in the sense of a 9 year old spouting Ive got 10 people in my gang. Bazaar

I don't think you have to worry about counting friends Alison.

Or me obviously! What are the activities you describe, or shouldn't I ask - ps I've never been on Facebook.

I was having a similar discussion with a colleague just the other day. He lambasted Facebook, stating it was all a very odd and that he didn't understand it. I then asked him if he'd ever used it, or been on it surprisingly he said no.

If you try something and don't like it, fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to deride others who use it without an informed opinion, well...

In regards to keeping in touch with people, I agree - there are certain people I'd rather not get back in contact with (bullies at school and alike), but at the same time I met some great people during college and university, that I simply lost contact with (this was before mobile phones and email which people take for granted now don't forget) as we moved about the country at different universities/jobs etc. I also had some close childhood friends who lived on the same street, but whose parents moved away for whatever reason. I have met up with some of these people since joining Facebook, and now that we've swapped mobile number and email addresses, we'll probably stay in touch.

There are some annoying aspects of it granted, I've been invited to many different "groups" or applications etc, but that's part of the rich tapestry that makes up any social group, be that on line or not. You'll likely meet some chuffin annoying people at your local pub, or maybe you don't enjoy playing pool, but that shouldn't stop you having a good pint with some friends.

I agree you shouldnt blast something you really know nothing about. I dont have a facebook account but my sister does and she showed me round her page and her friends but Im not convinced. Each to their own

Well, I've not been a Facebook person until the past week or so and I've suddenly realised that it can be a good way to keep in touch with people, though I don't use it to actively search for people.

But today I've started to upload lots of pics of my parents and family - for no other reason (other than it's absolutely peeing with rain here today) than people from my past etc. just may have some interest in them, genealogists, that sort of thing who knew my family back when.

And it's fun having my neices and nephews saying 'did you have to post THAT pic'!

Most applications on F/B are aimed at folk who like 'messing' about. If you've not experienced something like Zombies (and other time wasters) it's hard describing them. However I did enjoy playing Scrabulous, an online scrabble type application. As we had such a mild Jan & Feb the garden called so I've not gone back to it. Apart from posting occasional photos I guess I won't really use it again.

I have the law of the playground on my upstairs toilet tank....people who use my toilet always take ages and come back downstairs with some great anecdote.
