A year does sound a more reasonable time. Why is it necessary to weed them out anyway? R we short of space? or will it speed things up? Do we feel untidy? anyway wouldn't any posts also be deleted; thus stopping us refering back. Strikes me as a bit Stalinist to delete our history.
I think that getting 4ooo members is fabulous, even though lots dont post many do (eventually) come back and have a lok when the gardening season comes about. The great thing though is the formula we have here.
There are forums not worthy of mention who encourage any advertiser or trader to be a member and that is not what we want here.
I know I haven't posted much for a while, but this still feels like home on the Web. I will spend more time here this year, promise, but would hate to think you might wipe me out
I'm not worried about numbers of posts, more numbers of visits. Surely if someone hasn't even visited the site for a year they should be considered to be an ex member, not an active member.
Tush now, don't be harsh. A prodigal sheep may wish to return to the fold; don't bolt the door! You could perhaps regard them as dormant, put a snooze icon up...virtual cryogenic suspention?
I'm not sure why we need to thin out any accounts myself... Yes it's lovely that we have lots of members, and maybe some never post and just watch from the sidelines. Not everyone's confident enough to join in (this is where I hope Wellie's fab thread will help bring people out of their shells a bit?) and sometimes circumstances change and you don't log on for a long time, like me when I was pregnant, but then circumstances change again and you know you're still welcome to the grape family.
To me the number of members doesn't really matter, it's the quality of the posts, the atmosphere and support/friendship that make this place my "net home"
A lot of members dont post, to just read the vine you dont need to log on so many people dont. Lots of members are actually active reading but not logging in. One day they will post so will need their membership for then.

I wasn't suggesting that people lose their accounts, just interested in the number of people who actually use the site ie of the 4000 members have we hit 2000 members who use the site or is it more or less, just nosey really!
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
