Nice day - can't go out!

I'm sat sitting here waiting for a parcel. I paid for next day delivery and left instructions as to where to leave it if I wasn't in. They tried to deliver yesterday but they want a signature, so I have to be here . When I rang them they told me it would be delivered between 7am and 7pm today. Saturday is the only day I can do my shopping unless I drive out of town.

The first dry weekend day for months when I haven't got the flu, sprained ankle, babysitting etc, and I'm stuck indoors.

I want to go play with my new azada and take piccies of the lottie and garden to post on here, sort of before, and after, and back to before again .

What a bother. I don't suppose you know what time they usually get to your area? If they left a note of the time they tried to deliver yesterday, that should be an indication of the general time they will be with you today - if they do deliver on a Saturday! Hope you aren't kept waiting indoors too long.

I'm also at work. I need to dig over my veg plot, and as you say i dont have flu, its not *issing down.

At least i managed my 60 min bird count for the RSPB.

5.30pm and still waiting . Can't ring up as although they deliver until 7pm they don't answer the phone after 1.00pm .

What a pain Janie, bad enough having to wait in, without feeling like it's been a waste of time
If I have to wait for a parcel, it always seems to arrive at half past 3 when I'm picking the kids up from school! I now leave a note in an envelope stuck to the door telling them where to leave it and the sentence "I authorise you to leave ....... without signature, and accept liability for anything which may happen to it once left", and sign it & print name. That's usually enough for most of them, they take the note with them in lieu of a signature.
I hope they get there soon... At least your seeds will be in good order, and Harry Potter is never a bad thing Which one is it? Chamber of Secrets is my favourite movie (not too much cut out!)

No it didn't arrive . Stiff email to company answered by stock reply that didn't fit the problem. I will ring them on Monday and authorise them to leave it in the conservatory where they'll find a note in lieu of signature (thanks Sarah). I don't want to leave a note on the door as it opens straight on to a pavement on a main road.

This company (HDN) deliver from another company regularly and know where to leave parcels if I'm at work, even without me leaving instructions. It's usually a woman in a car with her kids in the back . Poor kids, I suspect they're bored stiff, but maybe it's the only way she can make a living.

When I was living in Buckinghamshire, and married, my mobile phone went PHUT, and so we phoned the company involved, and they said to send it back. Neither of us could be at home when it was due to be collected by Securicor, so Hubby left an envelope sellotaped to the front door, telling them that the parcel to be collected was with our opposite neighbour. All well and good....
It was duly picked up from said neighbour, but not by Securicor (!)
And I know this is a different story here, with a completely different ending to what we're talking about, but NOT a good idea to leave notes in envelopes with signatures and printed 'My name is...' kind of stuff? especially these days, given what's going on...

We've found a good solution to this, Dave-and-Patti-next-door and me - they both work long hours and so do a lot of their shopping online (couple of parcels a week), but they put me as the parcel delivery address, as I'm in most of the time as I work from home, so I can sign for stuff, no problem.

If you have a top dollar neighbour like me who is likely to be in, it's worth asking if you can use them as a delivery point.

Maybe doesn't help you in this circumstance, Janie, but for future ref it's got to be better than risking 'leave on the back step' type notices on the front door.

Lucky me to live in a nice place I guess - I've been leaving notes like that stuck to the door for at least 5 years, never had a problem/theft yet
