I usually do the Burn's Night thing (Scottish ancestry), but someone has decided to open a room named in honour of a local mayor who died recently. As a local councillor I'm expected to attend. Several of us have had a grumble about it but it was the only night his widow could make it .

So a) I'm not hostessing a Burn's Night and b) my daughter hasn't got a babysitter so that she can go to someone elses.

Never mind, I'll some Scotch and celebrate on my own later .

We are off to a remote Inn in the middle of Sutherland which will be packed out tonight. Bringing my guitar and music to join in the ceilidh afterwards. It's always a good night there, but for some reason on whatever night they have their Burns Night bash, it's always foul weather

Not doing haggis tonight as the ones I can buy in the supermarket just taste too strongly of kidneys and liver (bleugh).

I will however, enjoy a glass or two of scotch in celebration of my nationality

Me and OH are going up to Eyemouth tomorrow (I know it's a bit late!) He's celebrating withthe Edinburgh Rifles I think? I hope to just have a wee dram or few .

As an aside Shirl, I could recommend Donald Russell who do online ordering. They're a fab Scots butcher. Their black and white pudds are lovely too...

Thanks for that tip Newby, have found their site and might just order sometime when I am a bit more flush. We have a friend who works on the rigs who has offered to bring black and white pudding down for us so maybe I won't have to order those!

Morrisons do a nice haggis - beside the sausages.

mashed potato, baked beans and turnip... luverly.

As an exiled Scot I love haggis...we always have 2-3 in the freezer.
