Anyone know about painting concrete?

We've got one of those, a wooden one though. It stands next to our gnome (Sir Mortimer) who uses it instead of struggling with the back door!

That sounds like good advice!

I got this one:

Plus a similar one but with insects and also a little round one. If it all works out I think I'll get windows and all that stuff too!

Awww, that's sweet You should deffo get the windows etc, they're great. Could be a good money-making venture once you get the hang of it, at car boot sales and the like.

sealing ornaments for outside

hiya
i have painted concrete ornaments before and plaster cast ones , with the concrete i always use concrete sealer ( international) from diy stores its expensive but goes a long way. Do one coat let it dry and then do another .
I always use acrylic paint to bring them to life and then seal with acrylic sealer this then protects against frost and cold weather.
With the plaster ones which are more porous i use santex outdoor paint first then paint with acrylic then again seal with acrylic sealer top coat.
if you dont they become flaky and will crumble .
I painted some ornaments a couple of years ago and the colours are still
as good as the day they were done .
i am just doing meercats at the moment i love painting them and bringing them to life mind you the meercat colour is hard to match.

i thought it was very interesting (not having looked at the date) and maybe have a new hobby on the way so I' pretty pleased with it being resurected after all this time.

I hadn't checked the date either, I just read all with interest.

Just to add that it's always worth checking poundland and such shops, as I've seen various small tins of paint there.

I once bought a small tin of white paint to re-do the white lines in the parking bays.

Well as it as been resurrected.

A friend of mine makes and paints gnomes and when the wifes cast concrete pig needed repainting I asked him the self same question.

His advise was 50/50 PAV and water. Plasti-Kote paints from B&Q amongst others , available in wide range of colours and effects. Sold in pots and rattle cans, suitable for air brush when thinned down.

Very interesting anyway, not only nice to know that there are folk who look at the old posts (must be a very interesting archive, do I need a dust mask to go there ? ) but also just what I needed to know.
Just goes to show that there is some concrete benefit to keeping all those old threads in storage...

Just re visited this thread when I did a google images search for greenman and lo and behold, there was the one I'd Painted a few years ago.
Thought I recognised the face!

Now I'm here I might as well tell you I'm going to cast another and paint it in autumn colours and might even go on to paint a winter green man and a spring green man!
