I ventured down to the plot yesterday to plant some onoin sets in the ground, and as I was knelt down pushing them into the ground something caught my eye only a couple of feet away. I looked over and there was Mrs Starling sat looking me in the eye - no more than two feet away. She then hopped right up close and was watching me pushing the sets into the ground, hoping for a juicy worm to raise it's head no doubt.

Then, I heard a flutter behing me, looked around and Robin was sat atop one of my fence posts doing much teh same thing as Mrs Starling.

I'm guessing that by the time I got home, all my onions sets had been pulled up and strewn about the plot...

We had a nice bold Robin yesterday. TOH and I were attempting to put the outside lights up - a job that always seems to require far to long and ends up more complicated than it is worth! However, I have a Callicarpa (purple berried bush if you didn't know) in the front border and in the process of putting up the lights it got thumped around a bit - little Robin was in like Flynn and hopping around out feet, generally less than 2' away!

    Lovely!

    (so are the lights!)
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

We had 2 male robins in the garden yesterday - result - bleddy great row! They are aggressive little creatures for all their cute looks. 2 male robins fighting over territory will fight to the death.

There's a robin in our garden who fights with everything, he was chasing a blackbird again the other day, feisty little things! I was walking back from the shops along the old river near here at lunchtime though & all the little birds were hiding in the bushes & twittering & then I found out why as I came almost face to face with a sparrowhawk sitting in a tree watching them all, he swooped off across the river so hopefully not heading to my garden.

Be good if Sparrowhawks took woodpigeons, wouldn't it?

I've got a wren, blackbird and a robin all "sharing" the privet bush on my plot. I think the wren is in charge ...

The one that passes through our garden does! We find the feathers peeled off in sad little heaps.

The birds in my garden are tucking into the apples (blackbirds mainly), the seed feeders (sparrows, starlings and bluetits). The fatballs haven't been touched yet and I've only just filled the peanuts. Also, the pyracantha still has it's full complement of orange berries - the blackbirds usually make a beeline for it, but not yet this year.
