Supermarket Charge Cards?

Yet again its Christmas any my Nan doesn�t want anything! From a practical perspective was thinking of something to help with her weekly shop therefore do any of you know if any of the supermarkets do a card where I can add money to and she can spend as and when needed?

Perhaps some of the big supermarkets would sell you a gift card. I have no experience of this, just a thought. I think it would be a very good idea though. If you do find that any of them will do this i would love to hear about it.

Nice idea Danny, much better than buying her somenthing she doesn't really want.

Pretty sure that ASDA do it but you're probably best finding out which shops she uses as it's all very well going with one which does this system but if she hasn't got one / never goes there then obviously it's not much use.

A friend of mine and her brother had an arrangement with their nan's hairdressers that they paid for her to have her hair done however many times, they arranged that individually with the owner and it worked well so you can do it with other shops than the big boys.

Co-op sell gift vouchers, i know this for definate as i am a manager there.

Asda do, I'm sure think they replaced the savings stamp scheme with a card, if not there is the passport card thingy, my mum went on hol and put money on a card through the post office, she had some left on it and i'm sure she used it in tesco, worth a look. a good idea for a pressie.

Asda do a gift card, and an Xmas savings card (we have one) instead of savings stamps.

you can look on the individual stores websites for info, find out which stores she is using and investigate the available gift cards on their websites. On a personal note i make up a box of groceries for my nan, its all the stuff she uses such as real butter, rice pudding, sugar, posh biscuits etc....

Its a very useful and most appreciated gift.

I drive past the local supermarket on my way from the allotment usually laden with veg!!! The poor ragged trousered staff all stand outside imploring me to come in and buy something. "We have to feed our families at Christmas Mr Snadge, please come in and buy some veg" Sorry mate say's I, since I got my new allotment I don't need your inflated priced soggy cabbage thats been half way round the world or your limp carrots!!

And BACK on thread.... (unless Broadway's Nan happens to frequent BW's local)... I love the hairdresser idea, and I'm sure that Tesco (and I guess all the other supermarkets have a 'stamps' system you can in effect 'pre-pay' for your groceries.

My locals loyalty card also covers meals as well as drinks.
The card covers all pubs in the Tynemill group.

Hello Broadway, I know what you're trying to do and it's a good idea. But for something just a wee bit more of gift, why not ask around the local cafs and restaurants (wherever you think your Nan likes to go) and see if they will give you a credit note (gift voucher) so that she can go in for coffee and cake, or lunch, or whatever - treat all on you. I used to do this for my PIL. I deposited money at the local hotel so that they could go in for lunch, a drink, a bar supper or whatever they wanted to do until the money was spent. Treat on me every time. It worked well and was really appreciated.

Thanks for all the replies folks. I like the pub idea sadly at 88 she can only have a couple of Guinness now days otherwise she�ll start dancing to the Rolling Stones and fall over
As suggested I�ll do some research and decide on the most practical.
