  • Old clothing & footwear

I was wondering what is the oldest item of clothing/footwear fellow grapes have.
I have a pair of army officers leather boots thet were my fathers given to him by his Co in 1945 or 46 & they were a year or two old then so my (still servicable)boots are at least 62years old
Ps I don't wear them very often.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

I've got a pair of my Nan's long gloves, which she wore in her twenties. As she died 10 years ago aged 93, they're at least 70 years old probably more! I never, ever wear them though, they're wrapped, wrapped and boxed!

Given that a) I'm a freak of nature and I'm miles bigger than anyone in my family other than the milkman, and b) I sweat profusely - not many items of clothing last more than a few years for me.

...actually, I have a pair of shoes that I bought in Italy just over 3 years ago, and wore them for the first time 3 years ago today (our wedding day), and they only get worn on other happy occasions - weddings, funerals and other "official" business.

              Happy Anniversary HeyWayne!

Mr D gets upset when some of his clothing thats only 10 years or so old develops a hole, me, I find I'm much too messy for clothing to last me too long!

I have a lovely black cotton dress that I last wore when I was a size 8(sigh!) I can't bear to get rid of it.
I also have a beautiful black, silk frock with a black and gold silk jacket that was hand sewn in Hong Kong in 1928. It is as lovely as ever and still worn on occasion.

I had my DD wearing my old first bikini bottoms (the top got lost over the years ) last summer (they were bought in the USA in 1974).

Unfortunately, I have changed size and shape so often that it's not worth trying to keep things too long in my wardrobe. But I usually get a good few seasons out of any 1 item before it is despatched to sisters, charity shop or bin. I still have my Debs dress in my wardrobe, which got 2 wears (1993 and 1994). And my college dance dress (got a couple of wears too). Both made by my Mum.

                      Happy Anniversary HeyWayne!
I've got clothes nearly as old as me! I can't bear to throw things away if they're still in good nick & fit & might come back into fashion one day. I'm lucky in that I can still get into things I wore as a teenager & although I give a lot away to charity shops I store a lot away. I dug out a pair of gold stilettos, last worn in the 80s, this summer & O.H. thought they were great!I've also got a velvet blazer I wear sometimes which was my mum's, she died 22 years ago & had had it for years, so that must be knocking on a bit!
Into every life a little rain must fall.

I've recently had a clearout, having decided middle aged spread is here to stay! But I have a jumper my mum knitted me about 30 years ago which I just can't part with even though it isn't wearable, and a Levi denim jacket thats about 20 years old and gets worn occasionally even though it won't fasten up any more (my fault, not that of the jacket!!).

Happy anniversary Mr and Mrs HeyWayne, hope you have a great day full of lots of lovely memories - and here's to many more in the future!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

The leather boots I bought in 1975 are suddenly back in fashion again. They are still quite comfy if a little "nipped" around the calves. Didn't realise you could put on weight there as well
