  • Baking powder???

    Forgive me for being simple...but....

I don't understand why you need to add baking powder to SR flour.

I've just been looking at a cake recipe using self raising flour- with added baking powder....I gather from that the cake needs to be extra light?

So- if I only had plain flour, how much extra baking powder would I need to add to make SR flour?

I'm hoping to make Dorset apple cake for my first time ever!

          Brill- thanks!

Yup I have limited amount of both but one of the recipes said to add it to SR flour...but I now know that if I wanted to add it to plain flour I'd need to add 2 tsp extra!

          Thanks for that

( you can tell I'm a bit rubbish at baking- but I now have an electric oven that doesn't carbonise the base of anything I bake...and I'm a tad excited at trying out different baking recipes!!!! )

I only buy plain too - have enough containers with various things in the kitchen cupboard already (just flours means, white strong, white plain, granary, wholemeal and corn) so gave up buying SR years ago - get through my flour quicker then too so I'm using it fresher.
