Have used it a few times over the year and it's totally tasteless on it's own and therefore very good for adding flavours to that you want to taste. Can be very useful if done properly and seem to remember the mince was pretty good and probably better than using soy products.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Have tried soya and tofu, never again,I was first introduced to quorn a few years ago at WW,but i only like the mince, pieces, chic, brest look alike, the nuggets are ok,
sausages are yeuk, and burgers are like beef, she shudders, how ever,ASDA do a nice chilli bean burger, but the cauliflower cheese is toooo salty, each to their own,i quite often have just veggies,in with a drop of gravy taste just as good, sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

Now that is cool. Is it totally like safe and everything then? They don't really totally explain what it is on the packet ... I'm suspicious of anything very processedOriginally posted by zazen999 View PostI actually know the lady whose husband discovered it - we went to uni together.
It's nice for a bit of a different texture (and no, I don't remember what the texture of meat is like, it's over 20 yrs since I had any) and also to slip into a dish so that OH thinks he's getting chicken: saves me cooking 2 mealsOriginally posted by rustylady View PostWhat is the point? Its made 'like meat' to encourage meat-eaters to buy it - afterall vegetarians don't want to eat meat, that is the point. If you care to do research you will find that the Chinese have been making 'mock meats' for 1000s of years...Originally posted by rustylady View PostWhat is the point? Why do meat eaters find vegetarianism so threatening? To see a world in a grain of sand

I really don't find it threatening. I do eat some meat, but not a lot. I just find it really strange that there are so many products on the market "pretending" to be sausages, pies, etc. etc. If I am having a non-meat day or two, then I don't find it necessary to fill my plate with pseudo burgers or sausages.Originally posted by smallblueplanet View PostWhy do meat eaters find vegetarianism so threatening?

It's really handy for when you have to eat with rampant carnivores, who would otherwise question you intently on why you don't eat meatOriginally posted by rustylady View PostI just find it really strange that there are so many products on the market "pretending" to be sausages, pies
Only last night I was round the Outlaws and OH's brother declared that he wanted to "question me" on my vegetarianism.
It's the same principle as drinking a tonic water in the pub if you're teetotal: it looks like a G n T, so you don't get grief for not drinkingLast edited by Two_Sheds; 23-09-2010, 06:45 PM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Neither do I, its just that they don't make Quorn shaped like courgettes, oh hang on...and they aren't pseudo burgers/sausages they are Quorn burgers and Quorn sausages.Originally posted by rustylady View PostIf I am having a non-meat day or two, then I don't find it necessary to fill my plate with pseudo burgers or sausages. To see a world in a grain of sand

Personaly I am not a vegetarian,I just don't like the taste of so called meat, even chichen is not tasting as nice these days, but quorn,or whatever choice of what i call pretent meat,it is mostly vegetable in origin, and can compliment your vegetables, but the mince is so versatile and easy to use, from stirfry to hot pot,Originally posted by rustylady View PostWhat is the point? Is that *all* meat eaters that you refer you?Originally posted by smallblueplanet View PostWhy do meat eaters find vegetarianism so threatening?
I eat meat, I eat meals without meat - I don't find either group (meat/non meat eaters) threatening when they talk about their food. Should I?aka

Sausage is a shape. So is burger.
So we could call them; 'quorn roll ups' or 'squished quorn patties' but it doesn't roll off the tongue so well. So it's just as easy to call them sausages as they are the same shape....
After all, sausages are just rolled up meat bits and burgers are just squished meat patties....so why can't we do the same with veg?

No, but as a vegetarian I notice that it quite often occurs that meat eaters feel the need to make 'comments' on the quality of the food veggies eat...take that whatever way you will.
