  • Help - I've got Jelly Ears

Not a horrible disease, but a type of mushroom! I know they're edible, and I know where I can find lots of them, but has anyone ever tried cooking them?

    All recipe suggestions gratefully received!

Oooh...lucky you! It's the same as Wood Ear mushrooms (check this) and used lots in Chinese cooking.

It's a good one to dry too. I would deffo start with Chinese flavours, particularly Star Anise.

I've had them in stir fries, to be honest I'm not that keen on the texture but the taste is OK. There are however many, much nicer ones about so I tend not to pick them.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Are these the same as Jew's Ear that grows on old Elders? If they are I'm sure I saw HFW cook some once. Might be a recipe on the River Cottage site.

I've used them in a clear Chinese style soup. Very nice, but you have to shred them or they're a bit chewy!

We had quite a few on our Elder tree...but just left them ( not being quite sure what to do with them/risk being wrong)

I think it was the chewiness I didn't like

Yeah, it does feel a bit like you might be eating REAL ear cartilage! Still, if you can get past that!?
