  • fried green tomatoes

This year I only had half a dozen green tomatoes not enough to make chutney with so this afternoon I tried fried green tomatoes using this recipe wish now I'd got more green ones left because it tasted so good.

Bren, those fried toms really do look good.
thanks for the link and will definitely be trying it out.

I'm on a low potassium diet, so can't eat loads of tomatoes. I've already made buckets of green tomato relish and green tomato ketchup.
Don't know what else to do with them now. I'm going to trawl Two Sheds' thread for more ideas.

Hi Bren - how did you do the batter (powdered garlic and panko breadcrumbs to be specific!)?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Jeanied I did improvise and used garlic salt instead of ordinary salt then I added a bit of real garlic in with the egg. My breadcrumbs were home made ones, wonder if it tastes the same made with ripe tomatoes.
