  • Pickled beetroot query

I pickled some beetroot last October. Just decided that I really fancied a beetroot butty so went and got a fresh jar from the cupboard to find the beetroot has faded to a yikky brown. Is it still okay to eat and what causes the fading. I am sure it is dark in the cupboard (can't fit in to check though)

I wouldn't myself; if it looks wrong I'll not go near it. Probably why I'm a veggie

It's been reclassified. I blame this Labour government!

LOL, wonder what causes the fading. I guess I will have to go back to buying it ready pickled when I fancy it. Bummer

Nah - I mean meat looks wrong to me. Just can't do it.

But manky beetroot also sounds as if it looks wrong.

In my experience, when something looks off it tastes it too. Even if it's just psychological, you convince yourself that there's something wrong with it and then try and taste something wrong with it.

It tastes of vinegar and not much else. Gonna not bother doing it again and will revert to purchasing from the shops
