How to present cake entries in local show

I see that a few of you are entering cakes into your local shows. I'm giving it a go this year for my first time and plan on entering a 'wedge of carrot cake' and a 'square of gingerbread'.

Can anyone tell me if you are allowed to 'dress' your plate or must it be kept plain.

Nothing in our rules about how to present the cakes - so I put both my fruit cake and marble cake just on a white plate. Mum entered her plain cake on a cake stand.

When I went to our local 'big show' last year, all the sponge cakes were just on plates too - here's a pic. This shows after the judging when the judges cut them in half.

(we must have done something right - I got a 1st and a 2nd, and mum got a 2nd in our show )

Yes - unless the greedy judges scoff the lot! Actually, at our Show, they say that anything that anyone doesn't want back can be left for auction at the end of the day for funds for the association. I took mine home with me though. yum yum!

ha ha! The only 'non bake' recipe I can think of is chocolate rice crispie cakes - is that the sort of thing?

I think I need to google. I thought about maltesers slices, chocolate refrigerator cake, that sort of thing. One other category is strawberry mousse. How can that sit out all day, eek?

Mr HF has to bake a choc cake (best choc cake baked by a man) boy do they take it seriously in a fun/man kinda way. one guy baked his cake in a frying pan!
Our show is this Saturday!
The cakes are shown just on plates.
Does it say anything in your guide or entry list?

I held a coffee morning the day after and we ate the wining and not quite wining, but still very yummy cakes! heaven soooooo much cake eaten with old and new friends!

Can't see anything listed. The same folk win every year so they're quite keen to attract some new blood. My neighbour across the road is in the WRI so I'll ask her to look over the schedule to make sure I get it right, so exciting, lol.
