  • Yes Mr Bones, i'll need to do my research. Maybe a good idea during the quite winter months away from the allotment I can get clued up. I think i'll still be worried even if I was certain it was a safe shroom.

The only things i've 'foraged' for before were blackberries, apples, plums and pears. I'd like to do more if time permits - it never does.

    • I carry "Food for Free" by Richard Mabey, a Collins Gem mini book in my pocket, most informative guide book.

      • Tried some of the now ripened Hazlenuts, a tad on the small side and if I'm honest not as tasty as I had hoped, but they were free. Will try growing a few as the coppiced wood will come in handy. Also found some Sweet Chestnuts, both locally and in Bamburgh when on a visit last week, tiny fruits, I guess way too far north for them to grow to any size.

        • Great year for Brambles or Blackberries, not so good for blueberries or Lingons, will go and check the Hazels tomorrow to see if they are ripe yet.
