Do I need to toast poppy seeds or anything?

Took one of my poppy seed heads off to check for seed. There were loads!

Had a quick taste, but wondered whether I need to do summat with the seeds before using them on my bread crust? (I just lurve shop bought poppyknot loaves so thought I would try making some)

I think they heat from cooking will give them the flavour you want (and sterilise them)
