Thanks Roitelet, I'm sure I saw in one of the seed catalogues a self fertile variety that came as a year old vine for a reasonable price, cant remember which catalogue it was tho, must have another look! (As if any of us needs an excuse! lol!)

Hi Everyone, message for Mrs D. The variety of Kiwi-fruit is called Hayward and the aspect is West facing. It's not recommended to be grown in a greenhouse. Sorry it's taken so long to get the info but my friend has been in Berlin and Hamburg looking to buy a Steinway grand piano. Apparently you can save �10,000 by buying in Europe and importing it over here. Nice!

Have done a Google search and note that you can get them on http://www.chrisbowers.co.uk/kiwi-fruit.asp 1 plant � 13.55, 2 plants �26.40, 3 plants �38.65 - all the above are high quality pot grown plants. Don't know if they're any good but worth a look.

Don't forget the Haywood ones are the female so you'll need a male as well - shouldn't think the neighbours will have one to help as they often do with apples and the like! Quite like the idea myself but not sure I've got the space.

Kiwi-Lime Vodka

7 kiwis peeled &cut into large chunks
rind and juice of 1 lime
8 oz sugar
1 litre vodka

Put all ingredients into a sterilised kilner. Shake daily for 1 month. Remove sludge with cheesecloth and then decant through a coffee filter into steri bottles.
Leave for two months.

I made a really divine icecream.
It was really easy, I am not in the same place as the recipe, but i did find it through google, It is truly worth hunting down. I think in was just Kiwi, sugar and cream. mmmmmmm

Kiwi Fruit freezes well if frozen in syrup.

Just a simple stock syrup is all that is required (equal quantities sugar an water, dissolve sugar over low heat in water), let syrup cool then cover fruit in a suitable container with it and pop in the freezer, should keep for 3 months.

Can be whole, sliced or pulped and preserved in this manner.
