  • First wine in a decade

I made some cider last year, but I've not made wine since moving north to Scotland, so this year I've made a vow to put this right. The hedge rows up here are a tad different to England, the dominant shrubs seem to be Rowan, which you can make wine from, but I'm not sure on this one yet. I've looked for Elderberries and a few are still not ripe yet, so Blackberries or brambles as they are called locally were the choice. No local supplier of home brewing kit, so using old cider flagons and some air locks bought on line from Wilkos, the first gallon was started yesterday, the conservatory smells like brewery now.

You should try the local delicacy -Elderado.

A cheeky wee number, with a hint of throat burn and potential schizophrenia.

I was brought up on the stuff.
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)

        Honestly BM...you should try it.

It'll put hair on your eyeballs, and make your chin go blind.

CJ Berry has pretty much the same recipe in the First Steps book, I might give it a go.

Pressed my apples and got a gallon and a half of juice, going for wine this year as the cider last year lacked a proper cider apple to give it the taste. Aiming for a drier drink with less sugar(I'm not tolerant of sugar, on the Stevia instead for health reasons), so a kilo in instead of the 2 kilos recommended. I will add a few raisins in the demi johns after the first racking.
