Elderflower fizz into demijohn......

I know I know you're not supposed to but we don't drink ANY fizzy drinks in this household.

Can I half fill a demiijohn and bung it on and it'll be ok?

I've tried asking on freecycle and someone offered the ones from her recycling bin (which I'm a bit squeamish about ) so haven't said yes.

I take it you're talking about plastic pop bottles. If they're being recycled they should be clean. You can always wash and sterilise them - I do.

I'd use them no trouble, use a bit of milton (or whatever it's called these days) and you'll be fine.

If you put elderflower champagne in a demi-john with an airlock, it will lose all the fizz. If you put it in with just a bung, and no airlock, it will just blow the bung out when the pressure builds up.
If you're really too squeamish to use someone else's old bottles (sterilised, which you need to do before bottling anyway!), then nip into a big supermarket and buy some of their nasty, cheap, own-brand lemonade for 15p a bottle, and pour it down the sink You only need do it once, because you can save and re-use the bottles next year.

ok, I've been told off! I emailed the person offering them from her recycling and will pick them up tomorrow!

otherwise it's off to the supermarket for some cheapie lemonade
