Exactly....Surely "expert" THREADS (and more promised) are going to cause duplication across the standard vegetable and fruit categories and probably several others too....? It seems to me to signal a fundamental and unheralded change from a self-help website to an "expert" based hierarchical one (and the self-helpers already have experts in most aspects). If experts and professionals wish to be active and add suggestions to any existing thread (as some already do) or start new discussions under the existing headings (as many have at various times) would that not be most beneficial to members and the effectiveness of the GYO site?

Im slightly confussed by the purpose of this thread!

        By slightly I mean very!!!!

I will be sowing my seeds in wilkos compost 99p for 15lts I sieve then and thing to big gets put in the very bottom of the pot to aid drainage then the fine stuff on top giving the seeds easy access to push through at 99p for 15 lts even if i have to buy two packets of seed to get a full pack to germinate its alot cheaper than paying the £8.99 for a bag of 20lt advitised compost

Oooops silly me - so my question is probably the about which seeds, apart from parsley and parsnip, are best to chit in compost in my airing cupboard - so far it has worked for tomato and chilli- and which ones not. For example I find aubergines particularly difficult so what is the best way to start those off?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Snadge, the biochar doesn't add N:P:K, if my understanding of it is right, something to do with the structure of it encourage beneficial soil microbes I think? I'm posting from my phone or I'd find you the website that I got my info from. Tomorrow

Well , I'm no expert but I sow them in small pots , put them in an unheated prop and put in the airing cupboard . Seems to work for me .

Oh come on peeps lets at least give our new member the benefit of the doubt, the forums are sponsored by the magazine, the magazine is (at least in part) sponsored by advertisers,if those advertisers can add useful input to the forums so much the better for us.

Well, we are almost 40 posts on, my query has still not been answered by the expert so I think I will stick with the vines own experts as they have not failed me in the past.

But can a company be an expert, don't we need a named individual? And can he/she operate 24/7 which the site does....? There was previously an expert with an expert thread but the expert hardly ever responded... I'm not at all anti expertise but I think if this thread about seed composts was in the usual veggie line-up by now it would have prompted a useful discussion with lots of tips, swops and recommendations.... And one or more responses might well have been from experts with a lot to offer. What doesn't make sense to me is having it as a separate thread as it leads to inappropriate or unanswered questions and duplication...

                      Hi Carbon Gold

As you can see from the response to your initial post - and I'm sure through an admin glitch - it would have been a appreciated by the Vine if you had been 'introduced' first rather that just let loose on here! I'm afraid that I was one of those who saw your post as blatent advertising and complained to the mods.

Now that your input has been explained, I would hope that we would all give you the 'benefit of the doubt' as to your usefulness! As has been pointed out in the previous posts, we are going to ask you to justify your 'expert' status and to verify any woolley statistic, I think, and I would hope that we will all give you a fair hearing!

Also, if you were a person who we could relate to, rather than a company entity, and if you 'joined in' you would be seen to want to be part of the community rather that just an advertiser with a back-stage pass, I think.

I've no thoughts on your product as I haven't researched it sufficiently - I'm a New Horizons fan (woody as it might be) for any seeds (mostly pea and bean) which seem to do alright in their pots until planted out - mind you, the slug damage at that point is another matter entirely...

BM, CG's post was posted previously - which we temporarily removed whilst we sorted things out (as you'll see if you check the post date ) - it's now been made available again, so they may not be aware that their post has been made available to us all again. Unsure if they will be posting on weekends personally - I'd expect a reply on Monday!

Hazel, just to let you know any expert is only allowed to post new threads in their own forum, and advertise their products there (or obviously reply to a thread/post).

Outside of their forum they can only reply to posts, and are not allowed to advertise their product(s) So yes, it'd be great to welcome them as part of the community.
