hello there, im new to this site, but what a fab site it is. I live in north somerset and am looking to get an allotment, has anyone any ideas as to where to start, I know nothing about growing anything but im really wanting to learn, would there be people on hand at the allotment site that would be willing to point me in the right direction

Try your local council first off, the district or town one, not the county one.
They should be able to advise you of any council-run allotment sites and maybe able to give you info on any privately run ones too.
Also try putting allotments and where you live into Google or something and see if that brings up any hits. -

Have you had a look round your local area to see what allotments there are? If you don't know where they are, contact your local council or do a google search or ask your neighbours. Once you've found out where they are go and have a look. You may not be able to actually get on the site, but you can have a look from outside and see if it looks well maintained. Also you may be able to talk to a plotholder - we're nice people and usually respond well to a smile and a hello and we're usually happy to help with local info.Comment
