  • Looking for a allotment in Upper Norwood (SE19)

    Hi all,

I hope posting a request as my first post is OK. We are looking for an allotment near home (SE19) but I am not having any luck. I put in a request to Spa Hill but I have heard nothing back and I have been in touch to find try and get confirmation on my application just so I know how long the waiting list is but they have not got back to me.

I spotted some allotments off Maberley Road but I can't find any details about who owns them. Does anyone know?

Is there anywhere else I can apply?

    Cheers
    Stu

funstuie, I used to live on Fox Hill and my old neighbours have a plot on that site. I'll find out from them who looks after them. I do know they waited several years to get it, though, but then if you don't go on the list you'll never get it

the croydon council website has a link to this
          London Allotments Network Home Page
          might help, might not ...
waiting list for croydon allotments is 3 years so don't be surprised at 5 years for spa hill - spa hill is one of the bigger and better allotments ......

            Hello,

I went along to the Spa Hill open day a couple of weeks ago and they were telling us then that if you lived within 1km of the site you would get a plot probaly by winter this year! If you live between 1 and 2km away then you may have to wait until next year, and if you live further away than that then you are in for a very long wait.

The Spa Hill site is huge and very interesting to look around. I hope you get the plot you are after.

Interistng I was under the impression that Spa Hill has closed their book to everyone apart from people that live within 1/2km of the site.

Spa Hill are pretty useless. There list system doesn't seem to be working. I am within 1km of the site and I have been on list for a while but I know of someone who got a plot 2 weeks after applying late last year and he lives further away than me.

I spoke to someone on the phone who told me there is no way of knowing where I am on the list.

I am going to head down again this weekend to see if there are any officials I can talk to as I just want to find out if I am on the list and if I can get an estimation on when a plot might become available.

Its when will a heart come up for transplant. You need someone to die or move for a plot to be come free.

My understanding is that they run a priorty system you get more chance the closer you are to the site.

I went down this morning and I am 1.2km from the site so optomistically I will be waiting about 4 years probably closer to 5 as people who live within 1km get priority so therefore get bumped up the list.

Yes I had heard that....We have 30 on the list but have just got a new field that will be split in to 30 1/2 plots....so that should bring down our list a bit.

Our council works that system you go onto the waiting list for the site closest to where you live.
There are 5 people on our street & two on the next street have plots on our site & 5 peoples houses back onto the site.
live 5 minuets walk from the site.

I know you need to be close to your plot to tend it but I dont think it is fair. You should give an area and then first come first served

I think their system is a little unfair in my opinion. Should anyone move into the area within 1km and apply they will get up the list and I will we be bumped down.

I saw their list and there were people in band 2 (1km to 2km) who applied in 2005 whereas there were people in band 1 (inside 1km) who were due a plot in June this year but who applied in august 2008.

I understand the reasoning but that does seem a little unfair. I am 10 minutes walk from the site and I am sure there are a lot of others in a similar position.
