  • How To Clear A Plot in 3 Afternoons

What a week! RustyLady and I teamed up to clear a plot that's not been touched for 7 months. It's amazing how quickly a nice plot can go to seed (literally)

I biked over fully tooled up (loving my lightweight lady spade) and RustyLady set to with the strimmer. Lots of painkillers & grapefruit squash was consumed, radio set to 2 and the sun was out

We emptied the Daleks and found some lovely well-rotted goodness. They were quickly refilled, along with about 10 binbags (all watered & pricked, a la leafmould making). Comfrey, nettles & grass mowings were added as compost accelerators.

We pulled up the largest, flowering weeds first (PSB included) which made a big visual difference and made the rest seem less daunting. It was hard going, but we were on a roll

As we cleared each bed, it was promptly planted up (or else Nature will fill that vacuum with more weeds)
          1) broad beans
          2) carrots
          3) spuds

We are now both totally cream-crackered, but very pleased with a job well done. There are still areas that need clearing (the grass is really hard to dig out) and will stay under carpet for a few months.

We were chuffed to find 2 fairly mature gooseberry bushes under the brambles ...

Not as exhausted as we are, Comfreyfan!! I had a lovely soak in the bath with some of my fave Sanctuary products, but I still ache. Don't think either TS or me will be late to bed tonight.

I spent ages strimming today too - a very satisfying pastime! Congratulations on all your hard work.
