    Do any birds fly at night?

    Just been out walking dog and noticed a small bird fluttering around and clinging to the brick wall of the building. First thought was a bat but not on such a cold evening. I noticed same bird in same position on wall a few evenings ago. Little round thing like a spuggy!

    Any ideas?

    does sound more like a bat than a bird, but it is a bit cold for em

      are you sure it wasn't a bat? i know that sounds daft but they aint all black and spooky looking.

      owls of course, have to be a flamin small owl though.

      only other birds i know cling to walls like that are housemartins and swallows, but after dark?

      sorry, still reckon bat.

      what the DEVIL is a spuggy?

        housemartins and swallows bog off to africa for winter though, they aren't stoopid

        spuggy = sparrow i think???

                100% NOT a bat! Unless it had eaten a spuggy of course! 100% lickle bird!

                  well there is anothe smaller nightjar, which i cannot find a pic of yet, but..... apparently it hibernates for longer than the bigger ones, so is a bit more doubtful for the cold weather.
                  must admit it has me stumped, but then tell the bats and birds in my eaves that, they are still very active.

                  robins can, they are small, sparrows do of course, maybe it was just late home after a night out with the starlings and the missus wouldn't let it in?

                    Treecreeper or nuthatch, both creepers/clingers, and don't forget wrens. Don't be misled by the colours on these sites, they are a little over the top.

                      Petrels, but they've migrated too.

                      If you can see it, could be the lights are confusing it, like streetlights do?

                          There are piazza lights around the building so it is quite light!

                            Looks a bit like the treecreeper but has no white on it......

                              LOL, but snadge did say 100% ikkle, do love eagles and all hunting birds tho.

                              I had fogot how unbirdlike nightjars are till i found that pic, most distinctive heads.
