    A thread for local weather

  • #2
A bit gloomy in the South West this morning after some lovely sunshine and 12 degrees yesterday. Hope the sun comes out again later.

It is snowing here thick and fast, only just got over last week. Hope it does not last long.

Bit of a leap in time to today, which has been beautiful, frosty start, then sunshine all day

New Year's day dawned bright and sunny here - then at about 3.45 it went dark and started to snow. We didn't take much notice as it tends to vanish pretty quickly here. I gave the hens corn at 4.10 and commented that if it kept up for much longer it might start sticking. Elder son phoned from work at 4.35 to ask if Madmax would pick him up from work so they could 'do some doughnuts' in the carpark coz of the snow! Madmax left at 4.40 for the 7 mile drive to collect said child (I opted out as I couldn't stop sneezing long enough to drive anywhere). 2 hours later they got home!!!! One inch of snow caught the county by surprise and our loyal gritter drivers hadn't done their stuff Still quite white here (much to the hens disgust) and windchill makes it feel like around -6

Same here, still a fair bit of the white stuff about.

Mr Robin and Mr and Mrs Blackbird have almost been tapping the door the last few days for supplies.

I'm in the middle of you two but no snow here at the moment, I just had a quick look outside, no snow but icy and cloudy.

Loads of blackbirds here too, my apple tree seems full of different birds 1st thing as they wait for their breakfast

                        2 hrs for a 7 mile trip

Please help me out, what does 'do some doughnuts' in the carpark' mean?

Snow still on the ground here - not falling at the mo.

I've been giving the birds a mucky mix of soggy bread, suet, seed and mealworms - yum.

I am not up on the donuts thing, but I guess it has something to do with spinning motor vehicles..... :P

Mixed seed, fat balls, sunflower seeds, peanuts and niger seeds here, along with bread, apple cores etc

I'm afraid I can't do the mealworm bit!

You got it Mr Dinkle, elder son wanted dad to spin the car about in the empty and icy car park - needless to say it didn't happen!!

The snow is still quite happy in the garden - hens hate it. It has melted where the sun reaches but that is not much of the hen run at this time of year.
