  • What new plants are you trying in 2015?

I always try a few new things every year- I have the space, and though they are often a bit of a flop, sometimes I discover a new favourite.

This year I'm planning to give edible chrysanthemum, root parsley, scorzonera and quinoa a go.

What plans do you have for new vegetables or fruit experiments this year?

Well bearing in mind I have just thrown a lot of out dated seed away I was going to not do any but that's looking unlikely the more I look in Garden Centres and when I looked on Realseeds

        New for me:-

Amaranth (one variety for leaf and one for grain) , carosello and magentaspreen/ mexican tree spinach. (All vsp and grape swaps)

Jostaberry (will be a new fruit/ plant for me)

true potato seed, gilfeather turnip thing, horned cucumber & onions from seed for me, plus many different varieties of things I already grow, particularly squashes and chillies.

Jostaberry will also be a new plant for me.

Root parsley is lovely, but be prepared for the roots to be small.

Baker Creek's website is regularly my downfall, though for this year the VSP and other seed swaps have really come up trumps.

Japanese wineberry, hardy kiwi, Chilean guava and nine star broccoli for me. Oh, and cucamelon and tomatillo. And some new green leaves - purslane and mibuna.

I'm going to try growing red celery, which was one of the freebies with GYO mag. Also, there was an article in the magazine about growing chick peas, which I'd love to try just out of curiosity.

Chili grower - I tried cucamelons on the allotment last year, but no joy. I reckon they're probably more of a greenhouse plant.

Go for it with the red celery WPG. I did so and if you can nurture the spindly seedlings through to going outdoors it turns into a strong giant of a plant.

and thinking about trying to grow rice

                          Tea.

Bought a couple of 12" high potted plants in the autumn (not much effort involved on my part besides potting on). Looking forward to sampling a cup or two in the near future..

As I only garden from home my space is limited. I am thinking of sprouts and broadbeans for new crops. I can only grow what we definately eat, so my choice is limited. If my greenhouse ever gets up, then it's going to be cucumber as well
